This is the feature I'm most interested in trying.

it's cool, but could very much be the beginning of the end.
think about all the teenage girls who can now whistle their very own dubstep tune, and wah la, instant producer.

That thought crossed my mind as well, but hey if they can come up with a great melody more power to them. The more I thought about it the cooler I think it is that the barriers to making music have come down this much.

I've been a guitarist/musician for over 20 years and there's things I've learned to do in that time that can't be matched by someone humming a melody into Ableton. So I don't feel threatened by the "teenage girl" in the scenario. However, I do think the volume/output of crappy music made by wanna be producers is about to skyrocket :D

The thing that makes it seem really inviting to me is all those times I just couldn't find that one freaking note I was missing.
The times where I could hum it, but got stuck when trying to play it.

I think it's a sick new feature.

I always keep a Tascam voice recorder handy to "dum de dum" shit into it when I feel inspired and don't want to forget...

Hell, I could just "dum de dum" everything! Like some complex lead synth instrumental that only a pro-keyboard player could play (I hope!).

As for the Drum-to-Midi -- the first thing I'm gonna do is feed it some Clyde Stubblefield and see how it performs :)

Sonar, cubase,FL studio and even reaper have this feature. Mixer results with a bit of editing the midi
After.it will be interesting.

Well I should say is I have had mixed results.when I hum an audio clip
and convert it to midi and look at the results I think dang I have been humming
the same note for the last minute. But I have had great results using it to
Double my bass with a midi instrument

And melodyne in studio one had to be the pick so far with vari audio in cubase a distant second. What is really cool is that ableton claim it can do poly phonic so it can do chords even that chord on the guitar that you don't know wtf it is but it sounds great

But Melodyne cannot do the drum extraction thingy 'automatically' as Live 9..

Edit... Cant wait to throw some of these converted drum files at Jamstix..

There's been apps that have been doing this for some time. Audio to midi convertors are nothing new. Before that humans did the same thing.

Who would want to compose music with your voice while you are already composing with your keyboard, guitar, bass, drum pad, ....?

I thought it is nice joke from developer's team.

You are kidding....
Aren't you?

Maybe it's time for us humans to play again instead of having all kinds of cheat tools to do things.

Let's sample our voice and play it with New Humming feature. Wait, it was called Singing by now.
