How can I learn how to use Ableton Live 8
How can I learn how to use Ableton Live 8
As most beginners know, learning Ableton Live is not exactly... simple. Does anyone have any links, tips or ideas on how I can learn thing tough music software?

Start with built in lessons for the basics.
Then go nuts making noises, recording stuff, and playing around with it.
Figure out how to do things "properly" later.
Don't expect to have a music career anytime soon (if at all)
Have fun.

1) The Lessons that come included in Live which show up when you first run it are a good start.
2) The Manual located in the Help menu is useful in understanding any terms you may come across in the lessons that aren't familliar, as well as in depth features of the software, etc..
3) Youtube is pretty good for tutorials

It may seem a bit old fashioned these days but:
Buy a book!

Has anyone found some good books? I saw "Ableton Live 8 Power" but i hear it is to much of a user manual.

It's pretty easy: The built-in lessons/tutorials. You don't need anything else.
And Live actually is a really stupid program, perhaps the most easy DAW to learn.
Forgot about books, you'll just waste your money.

I agree. Do the built in lessons. They're a great start. Then just start experimenting based on what you've learned from the Live lessons. Become a mad scientist!

If you're going to get a book, this one is pretty good (and not like another reference guide):MLinskey wrote:Has anyone found some good books? I saw "Ableton Live 8 Power" but i hear it is to much of a user manual.

Youtube Ableton Channel as well as AbletonDaily channel as well as others there. Too bad video sometimes sucks in regards to video quality/sound quality (hey some aren't pro's so....). But those two would be good as well as what others suggested with going through all the tutorials in Live Lessons (except those dealing with any MIDI stuff unless you already have a controller.

What is this book you speak of?!?!?!102455 wrote:It may seem a bit old fashioned these days but:

Honestly there are some great books even at chapters or where ever you buy books. get something simple to start. the built in lessons are great as well. they show you everything in plain english and start you off with the basics. once you start getting to know the DAW go onto youtube and start watching videos and following along. i have dual monitors and its great! you can have your lesson on side and ableton open on the other.
after that you can start looking up you tube tutorials on specific more advanced tutorials. Pyramind.com has some great stuff for free as well.
