Live 8 on a 13" retina display (pictures)
Hey all
I just got a new 13" Macbook Pro with the retina display. A user pm'ed me and asked if I could share some pics of how Ableton Live looks on the new screen. I thought I would post them here, as more people are probably wondering the same.
It really looks quite awful. I hope they decide to implement retina support, 'cause Apple are changing their screens for their entire lineup at some point, and people will buy those new machines.
Anyways, I just maximized Ableton Live on my screen, took screenshots and uploaded them without resizing.
Hope it's useful. Let me know if anyone has any questions.

Thank you for posting the pictures, Alex.
I hope Ableton will resolve this problem soon. Wrote them an email.

Nice huge screenshots... And what?! What hinders you from making music?
Blaming your musical impotence on somekind resolution issue is more than fucked up.
Seek medical help and hands off Ableton.
Looser...
By the way: what kind of music creator or producer (whatever...) would ever buy retina bullshit Macbook "Pro" for making music?! These "macbookies" are created for porn junkies only... To experience HiRes youporn encounters of the who knows what kind... If I were you I wouldn't confess about such purchase... But who knows: maybe you're somekind of an exhibitionist...
Don't blame it on retina - blame it on (the lack of) the boogie...
And god bless Romney! He will take the US & A where it belongs...
Into the deep ass...
Thank you Mitt!

^ Nice try, I give it a 6/10.
Anyhoo, I'm buying a rMBP later this month (and yes, I do music production for a living, should "Goddard" actually be serious about this). I'll probably have it set to full resolution, this fixes the pixelation problem from what I've seen, plus I'll have a lot more space to work with.
Maybe that'll solve your problem as well?
I agree that Ableton should implement a higher resolution option, though!
Cheers,
Moritz

They really should. I also tried the higher resolution, and it solves the problem somewhat. It's just that I bought the computer partly to get the retina display (use it for other stuff than music too). And it would be most awesome to have the full retina experience in all my appsMPGK wrote:^ Nice try, I give it a 6/10.

Don't bother developers with trivial things. They have pile of things to do before adding 'new' features.

Re: Live 8 on a 13" retina display (pictures)
Honestly, I've seen the way Live looks on a Retina display. Looked fine to me.
Re: Live 8 on a 13" retina display (pictures)
Works fine here. Setting it to full resolution means you get one tiny ass mouse pointer though, takes forever to move it across the screen.
To the OP, get the freebie QuickResX, works awesome.

Looks like ableton doesn't use vectorized fonts and objects and all is bitmap like in the 80's and 90's video games

Re: Live 8 on a 13" retina display (pictures)
I've got a retina display and Live does indeed look crappy on it. It isn't the end of the world but nor is it a non-issue. It's harder on the eyes, text is less easy to read and so on. It doesn't hinder any functionality but it is annoying, occasionally distracting and it should be fixed.

+1. All then need to do is improve the text and I'll be happy.

Yah, other than slight pixelation of the text I fail to see what the fuss is all about? I'm willing to trade you my 4 year old Sony VAIO and I'll even pay shipping on both ends. 2.0GHz, 4GBRAM, awesome display you won't have to worry about and can focus more on making music. That will save me $3000 when I get my tax refund.
