Do Macbook Pros get hot?
Do Macbook Pros get hot?
Hey guys,
I'm considering a MBP but I've read many reports that there are heating issues. Specifically for 2011 and 2012 non-retina 13" models.
Are those isolated cases or do MBP's really have such problems?
Does your MBP stay cool and quiet when running Ableton or other DAW?

I've got a MBP from late 2010, 17" and it gets hot as hell - no matter what I'm doing. Actually f.e. I'm writing from my windows-laptop, but on my MBP is itunes running...nice warm temperature. But when Live is running is even more hot - no matter if I use internal or external soundcard.
What I bought, to use it on my knees - on the balcony, sofa, etc:

With that it's still hot, but my legs are not burning.
In the summer on the balcony with I also put some cool-packs on the down-side to cool the MBP.
But the idea to cool the machine with the environment is not working for me...

13" Retina — CPU gets up to 82-3° at 60% CPU running Live, though average temp usually around 40°.
No problems to report, wicked machine, lovely smell.

I'm on my 3rd MBP, and yes they all get hot if you push them hard, but then again I've never had a computer that didn't. For normal day to day use and light to average song duties, mine have always stayed at a decent temp.

Yes very hot when under strain. Gaming is the most stress it will ever have to deal with. Audio wise my laptop is taking everything I'm throwing at it with ease.

Re: Do Macbook Pros get hot?
The last one I had was warm but never too bad. This newer one I got (non-retina) burns the shit out of me. It's crazy hot. Just like Tarekith.

Crazy hot doesn't sound too good when you pay the price for a premium notebook.
Does the fan get loud as well?
That's what I'm really worried about - more heat = louder fan noise.

Mine gets warm even when using web browsers, but I can see that being normal. I've never has performance issues on it.
My only concern is that my CPU will blow up, but not very concerned about that.
