Only 2 continuous controllers?

Post by hambone1 » Sun Apr 10, 2005 6:41 pm

I'm programming my 6-channel lights in Live. I draw 6 continuous controller curves in a MIDI clip, which works fine. However, when I save that MIDI clip and drag it back in, only the first two continuous controllers are there.

Is this a Live limitation? I'm using CCs 21-26 for pan, tilt, color, gobo, gobo rotation, and shutter. The joystick on my new Ozonic is fantastic for programming pan and tilt sweeps! I just want to be able to save all 6 CC messages, so I can trigger lighting as a normal MIDI clip.

Hello Hambone,

Just out of curiosity; What device is it that your controlling with Live? A regular DMX controller or something special?

cheers

MIDI-DMX converter. Maps MIDI CCs or note-on velocities to DMX.

Also using Live to control projector video, too. Note-ons select video clips & effects, & CC messages control effects. Cool, because the effects and video stayed synched to the video irregardless of tempo.

Great !
Thanx for the info Hambone. I assume it's the mdc-128 you're talking about.. Looks promising and not-too-expensive.

again thanx

I bought it years ago and never used it. I don't think it was very expensive.

I thought it wasn't working the other day (turned out to be a bad cable), and I opened it up. There's virtually nothing in it! They just made it rack-mount wide to fit it in a rack. The electronics would fit in a playing card box.

But it does exactly what it's supposed to do -- MIDI in and DMX out!

I tried, Hambone1, but I didnt have that problem.

when I exported, all of the cc data I made was there. it shouldnt only save 2 ccs. thats weird

are you using the newest version?

Hmmm.. I do have the latest version. Still only saves 2 CCs in the MIDI file.

Maybe it's the way I'm doing the CCs. Some of them are just a single CC message across the whole loop. Maybe it doesn't like those.

I figured it out. In order to save CC data, it needs a little CC curve circle somewhere on the curve. I was simply dragging the whole curve up to the required CC value to set pan/tilt/color, etc. As soon as I double-clicked a little circle on the line, it saved with the MIDI file.
