Choking, etc

Post by infernal.machine » Thu Nov 22, 2012 4:11 am

Ok, so you know how in a drum rack you can set 2 sounds to be in the same choke group, right? You trigger one sound, it plays, and when you hit the second sound, the first sound gets muted (ie 'choked'). Only one sound in the choke group can play at a time, and the second sound overrides the first sound.

All fine and good.. so here's what I want to do now:

I would like to trigger one sample in a drum rack with a long sustain (say 2 measures), and then choke that same sample from triggering again until it has played its full duration. This is analogous to setting the clip quantization in session view to '2 bars' so that no matter how many times you button mash a cell, it will only trigger every two measures. However, I would like it to work in a drum rack cell, for which quantization won't really help.

Any ideas?

I guess another way to put this is I want to reverse the choke. So the 1st sample triggered mutes the 2nd sample from being triggered until the 1st sample has finished triggering.

I swear that sounded better in my head.
