Hah - great question, but still it depends on the price range (hope that's what they call) and monitor type.

No middle class near field monitor can compete the hi end studio full soundsystem except for the price of course.

Anyways, if we're talking about a soundsystem that one doesn't have to sell both his kidneys, house, wife, kids and take 30years loan to buy, I'd consider APS Aeon.
Flat responce within 32Hz-30kHz, no need of additional subwoofers - simply great if You have enough space to hear the full sound range - which is especially important for the dub freeks, like me.

Adam P33A here since six years as well (couldn’t afford the S3A)
Very very happy with them, never had a problem
But the best monitors are only the best if you know them inside out, and know how your room sounds.
Of course some minimum quality and frequency range is necessary, but without room knowledge even some super duper whatever brand won’t help you
