Miking live string quartet?

Post by evernaut » Sat Dec 08, 2012 8:19 pm

So I'm recording a string quartet next week to do some parts on a few songs of mine. The material is largely acoustic guitars, drums, bass...some electric gats and some synth warbles...lots of vocal harmonies.
So am thinking get the players lined up comfortably in a small semi-circle, set up a stereo pair 3 or 4 feet back, spot mic the individual instruments and that should cover it?
Using AKG414/AT4047/ADK Vienna and Rodes as spot mics & some higher-end SE small condensers as stereo pair. And we're recording in a church!

Been a while since I've done this for a pop/rock mix so...any engineering/mixing thoughts?
