High hats in this song?

Post by dilshan89 » Sun Dec 09, 2012 1:18 pm

Around 30 seconds into this song, he gets the high hats going really fast. How does he do it? Even when I set my drum rack grids to 1/32, it doesnt sound that fluid, or clean. The hi-hats still sound stuttered and unnatural.

Also, is it possible to get hi-hats/other percussion going really fast like that when you hold down a pad on a midi controller?

Thanks

Geebus,

That ain't a beat, that is some shit, hey kids these days...

The answer is everything is relative, so either:

1) Find a way to divy up your time signature to 1/64s, or

2) Keep it at 1/32s programme your hit-hat shuffle/riff, increase the main/global temp till that shuffle sounds fast enough -- keep lay down your bass drum or every other bar, or what fits...

Remember that tempos can be halved, that's why you can mix "slow" reggae with "fast" DnB for example, i.e. just because your making Dubstep or Crunk(?) doesn't mean you have to use a slow temp like 80... they are prolly using a very high time sig and skipping a bar to make their beat seem "slow" and "step".
