Has anyone connected Kinect to Ableton Live?

Post by estevan carlos benson » Mon Dec 10, 2012 7:08 am

I'm researching the ways I can connect Kinect with Ableton Live. Presumably it requires M4L, which I also have. Does anyone have any experience doing this or know how I connect the things?

If you're on a mac, get synapse

Was playing around quite a while ago with this. I'm on pc & was using synapse & M4L.

Seems like it has taken a step up from when I was mucking about. Controlling Live with just your face

A year ago I have been playing with synapse a bit, worked great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r-Fv4E6uog

There is some latency, though. Playing virtual invisible drums didn't work so good.

I downloaded Synapse and tried to run it. Does the Kinect need to be plugged in for the program to run? It crashed every time I tried to run it.

Hello,

A friend of mine is building this crazy outboard Kinect PC...
His blog is only in German, but here's a Google-translated version.

He showed me some recent pictures a few days ago, looking pretty sweet!

Cheers,
Moritz

I came across this app 'Kinectar' a few months ago which works really well with Synapse.

yes, the kinect needs to be plugged in, otherwise synapse crashes.

I have seen Chris Vic & Brad Hammond demonstrate their Kinectar software in real life at a Melbourne meet up, it was an impressive looking way of using the kinect as an audio-visual controller. Also, it's free!

The meet up was of a group of musicians, circuit benders, software designers/users & other interested parties (Miller Puckette was a special guest that day too, a very interesting, informative, nice guy).
:D

That's really cool! I found Chris's videos on youtube and was pretty blown away with what he & Brad were able to come up with in his more recent demos.

I'm only just getting my feet wet with Kinect/Procesing/Synapse/MIDI/OSC and the like to hopefully control/automate some projection mapping effects with Modul8/Madmapper and use a 2nd Kinect to add MIDI control to my DMX lighting software with Kinectar :D

Has anyone had any luck with kinect for xbox360 on a windows 8 platform?

I have been extensively working on this (Synapse/OSC) for some time now, and can't quite figure it out.

Are there any WindowsSDK solutions?

Please help!
