Yeah I would say it's great not as an "effect" but as a way to generate some ideas. So far I have used it to get a chord sound as a starter idea and then after I have a few chords or an arp from a chord I will record the resulting MIDI data into the instrument I am playing and then get rid of the Cthulhu track all together.
From there you can then just build on that idea using midi data. Very inspiring and loads of fun. I posted a very rough track above I threw together after a few glasses of scotch just with a simple beat and a couple of preset instruments. I spent 30 minutes on Saturday morning to finish it off and couldn't be happier for how it instantly got me right into working on an idea instead of trying to come up with one.
