the promo video looks pretty slick.
my first though is "I want it" ... but then I realise that the slew of software and hardware I already have can do this, and I should be writing music rather than getting the latest toy and distracting myself further from creating anything.
I did like the way P5 1.5 makes your midi loop and sample library so accessible. So if they have improved on this in P5 2.0 that will be very attractive.
Live's primitive 3 folder browser with no midi preview and nothing but wav file names is way underweight now.
I guess the honeymoon period is over and the cash-fat competition is here.
Ableton have proven to be brilliant at what they do and have had a long idle period (not including the Operator debacle) so I am sure they are sweatily cooking up something that will pi$$ all over P5 2.0
Maybe like mouse-right-click functions

i dont think Live should look at cakewalk and try to top them (like cakewalk did Live),
just stick with the game-plan Abes. Keep the realtime functionality, flexibility, the beautiful user interface, and the intuitive clip envelope editing. These are the staples of Ableton Live.
Take that and build on it....
freeze,
more UI flexibility,
PDC,
ability to save multiple clips for one audio file,
advanced midi editing,
clone the volume sliders into Arranger,
allow us to save 'patches' of multiple fx configurations,
list Pan and Volume values in the Track Strip.
sounds worthy of $129 to me...
and i know its worthy of $129 to quite a few Logic/Live/Rewire users as well.

bingo. its so easy to fall into the gear trap .. "oh a new synth!" .. "oh a new sequencer!" which - after a point - gets really counterproductive.anonymouse wrote:my first though is "I want it" ...

this looks nice but i have a feeling that ableton is going to leapfrog everybody one more time with vs 5 and they will be playing catch-up again
(that is, they will if they pay attention to the wishlist thread and work hard on getting a lot of that stuff done)

its quite blatent just from that video that they are attempting to follow in abletons footsteps. Dont blame them.
Only thing that appeals to me about project 5 compared to Live would be the instruments it has available. Would be great to have several different instruments apart from the two available really.
I guess I can always rewire, but then u get the "midi device in use" crap.
2 things I would like are:
> to be able to draw in bars in arrangement view and just add stuff in in there
> vst-i's or just more instruments, ye it sounds lazy but not everyone uses live to make techno/trance sounding stuff?

These wishes belong here, instead of the wishlist, because they are directly in response to this competitve software.
C'mon Abe's, do it to 'em!
I mean... Keep it real...
I mean... god, I'm such a fan-boy,
but really, you created this territory, and they tresspassing.
Let's see some of that home-team advantage!
Of course, if you were o release Live version 5 right now, I can see newbies accidently purchasing Project 5 by mistake!
Perhaps this means we should get a whole bunch of really cool updates?
Or maybe the apocalyptic future of "products" has arrived!
Of course I would just be happy with some new emoticons...
