Music
AdamJay, geez. Everyone know that music is cooler than Live! And how can you say that something that comes as a part of something else is cooler than the thing itself? That makes no sense at all! Shees! I expect a 5 page post explaining your posision by tomorrow morning, ok?AdamJay wrote:music is pretty cool i'd say.

Is music cool?
Nah. It's just music. I reject the whole concept of "cool".
I see three paradoxes with coolness:
1. To be truely cool in an inclusive, traditional coolness, one must subordinate their own self identity to that of the judges of coolness - and that's not cool. Somehow, in order to label something cool, we worship that which is superficially rebellious, when it is quite conformist in actuality. Can't be too much of a misfit, that's not cool.
2. Conversely, to be truely cool in light of today's non-cool coolness, exemplified with the "I don't care what other people think I'm gonna do my own thing" coolness, you have to adopt sociopathic tendencies. The ultimate conclusion of which is to be completely in disregard of other people's perception of you and totally wrapped up in your self conception. And that's not cool either.
3. Nowadays it's cool to not be cool; one can accomplish this by trying to be so cool it's not cool. Alternatively one can be so non-cool in the first place so as to be above the whole cool / non-cool debate. However, to be cool like this one must not consciously strive to ascend above the cool/uncool axis of labelling, as to do so consciously isn't cool either.
I guess by writing this, I actually fall into the thrid trap - even though I could probably try (and fail) to assure you all that it's unintentional.
To me, coolness is the ultimate in self-referential social masturbation.
So, no - music is not cool.
If any of that made any sense.....
