Using white noise to improve dynamics

Post by ljd2002 » Mon Jan 21, 2013 3:18 pm

Does anyone here do this ? I'd like to find out more information if possible.
I've added some white noise to my track - and applied sidechain compression, but am not sure if I've missed anything out.

thanks

interesting - I guess the trick is to make the white noise sound only when the sound of the snare is 'playing' though.
Maybe thats where the SideChain compression comes in...

This would be a sidechain gate, not a compressor.

Hehe, when I think about all the money and effort that goes into our gear and tools to help us keep noise out, and these days everyone just adds it back in anyway! :)

Or you could just throw a sample of white noise in with the sample of your snare. I guess you wouldn't have the slight variation that way tho.

Along with many other plugs and techniques to emulate poor quality gear or less than ideal recording situations.
