So we all know about the badassness off the new MS-20 mini that was announced. I seriously am thinking about getting one. So what about the USB option? Maybe I'm not seeing the immediate use of it since there is a MIDI port. Any suggestions to what awesomeness can be done with it? Hook up a iPad to it? It's a USB "B" tip - Can a iPad even plug into it? Lets hear some thoughts fellow Abe-heads

I figured its just for midi in/out so you can use its keyboard as a controller or feed midi to it, just like alot of analogs that have usb. That way you dont need an actual midi interface, which isnt that necessary anymore since alot of new synths have usb, and its one less extraneous piece of hardware

Plus MIDI tends to run more stable over USB in my experience. Haha, my being all high-nosed to my Mopho now that I've said that. Poor Mopho )=

you can buy two of them, stand them on end and then sit this on top of it:

ok, but seriously, it makes sense that the korg has usb and midi for gate/cv but think about how fun it would be to send CV directly into the thing from your audio interface via silent way. or how much you could augment it with a handful of eurorack modules on the side....

I wish it would be able to control the MS-20 Legacy.

The MIDI port is for IN only, the USB port supports MIDI IN and OUT (i.e. so you can use the keyboard) though it's note on/off only....no velocity, AT, controller data. Channel 1 only.

I have a USB MS-20 Mini which I got when I purchased my Triton LE or more likely when I picked up the Extreme 61 long ago. I have the wires for it somewhere (in my cables box) but never tried mucking with it. I did use it for input and MIDI learning for knob twiddling but that was a while ago. Is this the same thing or a real version in Mini form? I will have to check it out at their site to see what is what.

[Edit] WOOT! They want $599 for this little sucker? If it is the same thing as the one I have I'd consider selling it for a bit less than that! It came as a bundle deal with my Triton Extreme....wow, six bills for it?!

I believe what you have is the MS20 Legacy controller to be used with the MS20 Legacy plug-in.

This new mini MS20 is a 86% sized faithful analog reproduction of the original MS20. Not quite the same thing.

Awww, thought I could make a couple of bucks there, but yes, that's what I got and I was assuming this was the same thing overall. It looks like the same exact item I have.

is that actually possible? implementing adittional MIDI funcitons softwarewise? even if those features weren't considered when the hardware was designed?

I could imagine they kept MIDI implementation really minimal in order to prevent the purists to bitch about like its no real ms-20 and such. but it would be so cool if all parameters were actually automatable. also i hope they release a rack ot desktop version.

Was just saying. It might be. I don't know how digital this thing will be.

actually their website says :
USB:
Type B, USB-MIDI Input/Output

* Only note messages (velocity is not used) can be transmitted and received.

So i guess that's all.
