Win 95 Games - Free Audio Sample Packs

Post by MarksBasementRecords.com » Mon Feb 04, 2013 6:27 pm

I made a few sample packs from some old video games I found.

They're free to enjoy! Loops and Kits included..

How would these go in the realm of copyright? I am sure the sounds even in those old games would be subject to licensing if anyone wanted to actually use them.

Sounds fun  Thanks Mark.

You might want to note that some samples in the NBA - Announcer folder are NSFW

To be honest, These games are nearly 20 years old... so I didn't really check into that.

I usually shoot first and ask questions later

Glad you guys dig em- hope they provide some entertainment

Copyright is life of creator + 70 years, so a 20 year old video game is still subject to copyright.

I can't imagine anyone would come after you for sampling this, but just know that it is technically illegal, and proceed with caution ;)

Not judging or condemning, just shining some light on the subject, as I work in rights management professionally :)

Yeah it's the same reason I just bought it up. It's one thing to say "well i'm giving it away for free" but I have gone through the same hoops before. I remember that I needed to come up with some audio for a scene where the character was playing a game on the TV. Needed just 30 seconds of "gaming sounds" and you cannot just record a game and chuck it it... You can, however, record like 30 different games and then cut, paste, filter and mix in some other elements to make it impossible to make out what it is.

It is great of you to do, just always be careful if your name is attached to it though.

Ripping the audio from an old (but very well known!) game and presenting it as a "free sample pack", with your name on it, is something that might eventually bite you in the ass.

Earthworm Jim is a classic game, I would recognize its audio instantly. They even made a HD remake of it in 2010. Deciding to offer "free sample packs" of such content feels weird.
