I think REX was the shit before DAWs did it natively. A warped WAV is the same thing as a REX from what I can remember. I haven't used Reason for a long while.

I heart rex files but agree with the comments. If you look hard for an advantage, Live lets you convert a rexed loop to a drum rack easily enough. But since most third party rex breaks are poorly edited, you'll only end up with a pad bank full of glitchy spill sounds that are unusable out of their original context, plus a couple of noisy snares which will need a ton of clean-up filtering. So, that's not a great advantage!

The biggest disadvantage is down to the Rex API from Propellerhead, which has gone viral in Live and all the other DAWs, as this imposes an automatic/unavoidable short fadeout at the end of every slice. Although it might be unnoticeable in the cleanest of breaks (which you can do yourself in the traditional drum machine style), this is a dealbreaker for musical/sustained rex loops, and for any relatively beefy/noisy breaks.
