Send panning
Hi All
Usually eg in Cubase etc, when I want a sound to appear in hard left pan but I want the reverb send to actually be right biased or even centred, I simply unlink the send pan and adjust its panning independent and all is good...where is the panning control for the send? Unless Im missing something obvious
Cheers

Re: Send panning
Are you're sure the reverb you're using on your return is stereo or dual-mono?
Live's sends are panned according to the track panning if your send is set to post.

Re: Send panning
Sorry if it wasnt clear; when designing space and instrument relationships, independent ie unlinked relationships are vital.
As another example, imagine you have a finger snap panned 75 left. When its sent to a normal reverb, the balance at inputs is also 75 which then, depending impulse vs synthetic, will distribute early reflections relative to that. However this will start to muddy up as its a straight rule and all sends follow this. What is powerful, is to have unlinked panning on the send. You send to the reverb at 100% right. Now there is a dry direct image making it feel intimate to the left ear, however the right image, including predelay etc will use your minds spatial location to tell it how far and direction etc. With a great impulse, there will be blurs to the left ear as well but as a product of the reflection from the right.
Simply put, allows the user to build a much more focused soundfield/space to place the elements/song into
In cubase I would simply set up a surround channel, load impulses in the LR, LSRS and LRRR stereo and buss back down to stereo but use an unlinked surround pan send; letting you position elements cleanly in the global soundstage...and very quickly. I have already asked about the set up in Live and accept Live is not optimised for surround but hacking with independent panning send would help
Cheers

Good to know this exists! Thanks [jur] ! and IMage_Engine for raising the question

Wow [jur] this is awesome! Some of my projects involve 8-25 channel surround sound performances and music/sound for full Dome films, so a 32 channel audio matrix and panning looks perfect. Many thanks![jur] wrote: ↑Wed Jan 20, 2021 4:48 amAnd if you want to go really deep in this area, then Audio Routes is your friend.
