I would get a producer/teacher and take lessons. will help you way better than any gear.
That said, Push appears to be the ultimate Ableton controller.

Yep, get one good hardware synth: Nord lead, virus, king korg and then get lessons to learn to play it.

Well, for me I have some disposable income to buy stuff for Ableton. And I have bought many things and then sold them. I can tell you that all you really need are piano style keyboard input, drum pad input and slider, knob input. To me Push setup/mapping looks nice but would not help me out in the least and it has tiny buttons you couldn't play drums on. Everything it does I can do with keyboard and MPD.
I would say if you have space, ideal setup is AKAI MPD 32 for your drums. You need those big legendary AKAI pads.
Then you need some type of keyboard controller and you say money is no object so I would get the Yamaha Motif XF because the feel of the keyboard on the 88 key one is legendary and it can actually be used like a VST.
Other than that, if you need to launch a whole bunch of clips in a live performance, I would say the AKAI APC 20 could be added. And I mean a BUNCH of clips. Because if you think about it, the MPD 32 can launch quite a few clips, what with several banks of 16 pads. That's why I don't have an APC, because I launch my clips with my MPD32 if need be.

The pads on the Akai models are definitely legendary, for requiring mod kits or DIY electrical tape fixes to make them playable.milfhuntr wrote:You need those big legendary AKAI pads.

I'd return the money if I could only make electronic music.

Re: If money was no object???
I'm going to assume that a good, fast computer is already assumed. But seriously, fast cpu is one fo the most important things to have with Ableton Live, because with decent latency, you don't really want to push your cpu meter in Live over about 50%. Ram is also important if using sampled instruments.
Other than computer specs, basically you want a good audio interface, good speakers, a good session controller/ midi controllers, a drum controller and a keyboard.
I would suggest:
1. The best speaker monitors money can buy.
2. A good quality, stable, low latency audio interface like RME Fireface UC or Apogee Quartet.
3. Ableton Push (For drum control and session control)
4. Novation Remote SL61 (Or similar keyboard with good control options - knobs etc.)
I'd also suggest an iPad with a few control apps like Lemur, Touchable, Griid and Konkrete Performer.

when I get those thoughts I imagine the first thing a teacher could ask is, 'how much am I currently practicing?' and I go practice.djadonis206 wrote:Piano and drum lessons
you can do it.

APC80 (APC40 and APC20 Together) / Analog Factory for Arturia (sub 500 midi controller with a hella good VST) / Spend 1K on samples and VSTs so you have quality sounds / Spend 500 on books and tutorials so you can pull all the power out of Ableton. / And then get something to make your set fun like pads or something. Its really an impossible questions because everyone likes what they like. I know people who hate APC controllers. So it all depends.

More acoustic treatment!!!
Such a hard thing to spend cash on especially when you get 40 "foam" tiles in boxes it's a bit hard to hide the purchase from the missus and explain why it costs several hundred $$$$
