good non-wireless mouse for mac

Post by vido » Sun Feb 24, 2013 2:36 pm

I just bought a mouse (rokkat kova +) that wasn't compatible with mac (even though I specifically asked the seller about this!).

So I'm looking for a good mouse to use with an iMac, and especially for use with ableton :)

Should be non-wireless!

Any reccomendations?

Logitech mx518 is what I have and use. It was recommended to me 3 years ago and has been in nonstop use since then. It has been renamed Logitech G400

Any of the higher end logitech mice are nice IMO, been using an MX620 for years now and it works flawlessly. Good driver support for OSX too.

Thanks a lot guys - seems Logitech now only has two wired mice for mac :/ I do want do get a few extra buttons to assign so the two left aren't cutting it. I have the trackpad (and love it for macbook pro) but it is not comfortable for me with the imac... I'll use it on the left side of the keyboard though, for scrolling etc.

Think I'll go for a razer naga - it has 17 programmable buttons..! Button-heaven! Anyone used it, let us know how.. :)

Ok - went for the razer naga - 17 buttons!!!

Dont know what I'll use them all for, now I've only assigned two of them: toggle midi-clip-view (small button on top of mouse) and hide/view Browser+detail-view and return-tracks (all assigned to scroll-wheel-click).

It seriously speeds up work-flow!

If you have assigned some key-commands to your mouse, which ones..?

Congrats on your purchase... I was gonna say though, go with a trackball of some kind. See trackball thread... Anyway, hope it serves you well.

Cheers,
Chris

Yeah, I'm thinking of that one too. If I understand correctly, then you can use Ableton in full screen mode and have access to other commands?

I wish Ableton would add more to the right click menu. Imagine having File, Edit, etc. on the right click menu. You could stay in full screen and have more screen real estate.

I use a Razer Orochi, which is a laptop mouse but works perfectly for my needs tied to my 27" iMac - I have limited desk space. Works wired or Bluetooth. The Magic Trackpad is cool, and I use one of those as well, but not my input device of choice for DAW work.

It seems to be serving me quite well - I'd like some tips on what commands to assigne to all those buttons though :) I almost bought a kensington expert mouse (trackball) but read somewhere that it wasn't fully customisable. I was in serious doubt though: and went for the one that was available in a local store... :)

Not sure I understand what you mean by access to other commands when live is in fullscreen-mode: I basically only use live in fullscreen mode. Don't know if you can assign buttons for other programs while running live (but you probably can) if thats what you mean. Anyway the items in the File- and Edit-menues- will mostly be assignable to the mouse... Much easier than right-click -->Edit-->Consolidate (or whatever you need to do). Instead, the click of one button on the mouse and it's done... Still I agree the right-click-menu should have these options...

Cool - same as me - have you assigned key-commands and shortcuts to the mouse..?
