On OS X I just named the 64 version "Ableton Live 8-64"[/quote]

right, i'm on osx as well.
so, basically, launching the 8.4 64bit dmg will install another version in my app folder ?
and not replace the current 8.4 32bit..?

yeah, you should have 2 versions of live in your app. folder. it doesn't replace the 32 bit version.

well, mounting the dmg asks to replace app..
is this the proper way?

sorry if these are redundant questions..

here are the release notes https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/wha ... sion-live/

gotcha. read thru all that stuff. just wonderin if going ahead with automatic
app replacement via install is a safe way to go ?
so are folks just renaming the 32bit version ?

In https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/wha ... sion-live/ they wrote: "The 64-bit version of Live 8 will not support Max for Live or The Bridge.". But when I'm logged in I can select to download Max 4 Live 5.1.9 as MacOS 64Bit version. Unfortunately it doesn't work :(

here is some more interesting reading.
"Which version does Ableton recommend?
We recommend to use the 32-bit version of Live for most use cases. The 64-bit version should be used when experiencing out of memory crashes on systems which have more than 4GB RAM installed."

Too bad they didn't add 64bit m4L support. But then who would buy Live 9 if they had...

Hi :)

Thanks for a great update:)

Since we have the 64 bit max and 64 bit ableton, how long before we can use our MAX4LIVE ?

Thanks for the feedback dear brothers at ableton.

:)

Edit: at this point, the m4l implementation in live 8.4x64 should be 1 line of code max? ( if the old patches work in the new environment, they should work here too if im not mistaken)
Editedit: brothers AND sisters;)
Editeditedit: i removed all 32 bit max n live stuff before i installed 8.4 ... Wär gut wenn das klappen würde und das jantze paket funzt..
Editediteditedit: thank you for all your superbness.. Really.. Its very appreciated.:)

Max 6.1 is the first version to have 64-bit support. Live 8/M4L does not officially support Max 6 as its editor, only Max 5. As it is highly unlikely that Cycling '74 will be making a 64-bit version of Max 5 (or in fact doing any development on Max 5 from here on out) I would not expect that there will be a 64-bit combo of Live 8/M4L.

Note that the conversion of Max to 64-bit has been no small effort and even this first release does not support all of Max's features when run in 64-bit (e.g. some Jitter functions). More about that here: http://cycling74.com/forums/topic.php?id=45448

Are there any release notes for 8.4? Is it merely 64-bit support that's been added so there's not much need?
