Can't find a way to clean install my old Live packs
Is there a way to install your old third party Live packs (for example old Puremagnetik packs)?
This was the old way:
Copy the file named ‘x.alp’ to a temporary location, (Desktop’s fine).
• Locate this file in Ableton Live’s file browser, right click on it and select ‘Install Live Pack”.
• Choose the install location, (this is a temporary location, so the Desktop is fine again).
• Right click on the installed file and select ‘Manage Project’.
• At the bottom of the right hand file browser, click on ‘Export’.
With the new browser (that I really like), there is a way to add folders, but when you click "manage project", "export" does not appear at the right hand file browser.
I do not want to use the live 8 library, I want to clean install all my packs.
New live packs install automatically, but not the old ones.

You don't have to do all that stuff with live 9. Just double click the pack (make sure it opens with Live 9, not 8 if you still have that installed). And it will open live 9 and install the pack directly into your chosen packs folder, as a legacy factory pack. It's basically one step and gets the content together in the pack destination, much cleaner and easier in Live 9.

But where do I find That Packs folder?
Do I create it? What would you recommend? I'm on a mac.

The factory packs folder is essentailly the new library for live, if you look in preferences it will tell you the default place the folder is kept, which you also have the option to move to another drive. That's where all the old pre 9 packs go (with legacy written after them in the folder view)

You should have a default Factory Packs folder. Mine is at user/Music/Ableton/Factory Packs.Tlacuache wrote:Thanks!

I don't remember if that was the default or if I set it there though. I'm sure it's in preferences somewhere. Do you have any factory packs installed yet? If so just go to Factory Packs in your browser, select one of them, right-click and hit show in Finder. This will tell you where you Factory Packs folder is. This is where all current factory packs and legacy packs will get installed.

Packs folder is in User Library/application support/Ableton
In Live 9 there is a browse button for your previous version on Live. You don't have to reinstall them if they are on your HD.
Good luck.......

I just tried installing a few Puremagnetic packs - installed Juice for Operator but it isn't showing under Instruments/Operator. Not sure where it is.

Mine is at user/Music/Ableton/Factory Packs, too.
Most of my packs install alright. I have only had problems with ARP Odyssey, it installed well on that location (above) but it doesn't appear
with the others at Browser-Places-Packs, and I can't find it elsewhere.
Thanks for your kind tips and ideas!

That depends on the pack. Some legacy packs will auto install into the Packs folder; others won't.Tlacuache wrote: With the new browser (that I really like), there is a way to add folders, but when you click "manage project", "export" does not appear at the right hand file browser.

For the latter, create a folder wherever you like, install there, and then add it to the browser as a place.
