Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
my take is.. Live browser was always broken .. I have always needed to use the OS browser in addition.
I'm already accustomed to saving to the "Live Library" from previous versions.
only difference is now.. it's called 'User Library' and the "built-in" content packs are separated and read-only
the other downside is that you cannot browse the HDD without making it a "place" and indexing it..
if I want to browse my HDD then I'll use the OS browser like before = no biggy
the plus side is that this browser really does work faster for me, the search has been vastly improved since previous versions.
that said... I think the browser issues can be addressed and fixed if Ableton puts it up as a priority.
since it's one of the few major issues left (the other ones being plugin delay comp and dual screen support)..
I'm guessing they'll get to that.
how many characters was that?

^^ bump
...and another thing:
- please bring back the ability to sort items in a folder by date...a very useful feature in 8 and earlier that is sorely missed;
- bonus: allow double clicking to open the folder as the top level, instead of nesting the folder. Just personal preference I guess, but why not enable both (single click to nest, double click to open)?
This thread is 28 pages long. Is this issue really not worth addressing, or even replying to via the forum, Mr. Ableton?
xx
p.s. Gonna bitch on Twitter, too. Can't hurt.

I finally just put all my stuff on my lappy...
2.4 ghz Macbook Pro 8gb RAM, SSD, Live 9 Suite, Puremagnetik, Minimal Talent
Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
All my stuff is on my lappy...indeed I replaced my SuperDrive with a 2nd 750 gig HD, so my 13" is loaded with 1TB aka pretty much my whole library - samples, audio sessions, bounces, iTunes, everything! I've had it super organized by type of file, date etc. in nested folders and it's served me well, at least in 8. I was able to access anything in my music library super easily - for sampling, auditioning, inspiration etc.Jekblad wrote:I finally just put all my stuff on my lappy...
Now in this awful new 9 browser I've got to drill down and try and see the file name by expanding each nested folder, as opposed to double clicking on "snares" and then "2012" and seeing the most recent samples I've chopped up. My naming convention for samples was never as important as the date I chopped it, because I could tell from that whether I'd already used it, for example. Browsing from A-Z is not as useful for me to find things, as opposed to, say, recalling something based on the most recent samples I've chopped (which is why "sort by date" would be so useful).

Live 9.1, still nothing about a fix for the browser-nightmare issue.
I (the original poster of this thread) finally didnt upgrade to 9.
Now I have to choose between one my most anticipated feature (dual monitor support) and user-friendly browser of v8 and I think browsing will win ...

Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
any workarounds for the indexing issue?
Ableton 9.1.2 installed and no folders but Ableton takes forever to open and save sets.
