Ok, Live 9, what you like/dislike?
Guys, I'm probably going to update to Suite 9 this weekend (I think I only have until the 12th to save on the upgrade, no?). I've been reading through a lot of the posts and see some things people are diggin' and some not so much. What are your thoughts?
Re: Ok, Live 9, what you like/dislike?
there are some cool new features but nothing all that mind blowing to me, until you add Push. BUT that puts the entry point over $700. I have 12-16 weeks to figure that one out.
if you're not on Live 8 then do it. Live 8 had some great things to offer over 7.

I'm on 8 right now (was my first version), and I like it a lot. I still have issues warping non-EDM tracks, though (seriously, can warping be done easily without a four on the floor club beat?!?!). Otherwise I think I have a pretty good feel for what it can do and how my workflow fits in with it. Would you recommend taking the plunge into Live 9 to save, I think it's $50, on the upgrade?

^ interesting observations.
Audio to MIDI is so cool... unless you have some over the top expectations... as a sketch pad, to grab that song in your head, it is unbeatable IMO
Glue is awesome. i don't have a 3rd party compressor. this one is GREAT so when i consider the cost of buying a 3rd party plug, this helps me justify the upgrade cost.
EQ8 is better now regardless... BUT when you add the spectrum analyser behind it you have big pile of win IMO. again, buying a 3rd party plug to do this, a la Fabfilter Q, just illustrates/justifies another 100+ dollars worth of savings... since you don't even have to leave the comfort of Live's GUI that can be considered a bonus.
those 3 add-ons, to me, make the cost of the upgrade a no brainer.
now add the cost of the Orchestral Instrument Collection stand alone vs. included... nuff said.
yeah, the threads... it would be cool if people would search through the threads and not start one on the same topic as someone else.

^ i don't know which i'd rather hear more... you doing it or Live's interpretation of it.

I am now attempting to hum "Devil Went Down To Georgia" but I cannot get a decent damn fiddle sound in Live
Re: Ok, Live 9, what you like/dislike?
I think its great and worth the upgrade. when u break it down into a list of things, aside from the obvious, my favourite new features is Max for Live integration. Since i never had it before, its fresh for me. In fact it seems there's been a lot of focus on EQ8 and Glue, but the fact is M4L now adds to Live: Convolution Reverb and pro, LFO devices for midi and audio, Midi Echo, Buffer Shuffler, envelope grabber, the mono sequencer AND the Drum Synth - which is awesome IMO, and along with Convolution Reverb probably the two best new devices in Live 9. + there's loads more bundled. Not to mention Automation in Session, Convert Arrangement to session, Audio to Midi, and also something not many have discussed but the new ability to create default behaviours for new tracks is a really nice workflow enhancer. Live 9 is a change in the paradigm of Live, its a huge update! - a complete rewrite to achieve session automation so it's much more integrated with arrangement, the addition of Push and the inclusion of M4L is a real killer move - this is really where you'll see a lot of development from now on. Sure, there's a few kinks to work out given the changes, but they'll come. And yes of course, Push is the big one, but thats not really in many hands yet, so lets wait and see
