nope.

the theoretical maximum speed of a SATA III 6 Gb/s bus is 768 MB/s.

even a really fast single hard drive, for example a 10,000 RPM WD Velociraptor can only sustain about 200 MB/s. not even that drive can saturate a SATA II (384 MB/s) bus.

to take advantage of a SATA III bus, you need a fast SSD or a striped RAID array.

Put enough RAM in your Mac and it won't matter what the spin speed of your hard drive is, as Kontakt will play the samples from RAM. I have 16 GB in my iMac.
Thank you for double checking. I see your point and that is also valid for a Mac Mini at this point. It does not matter how much time it takes for boot or open programs. That will be only slow the first time. After that all will be snappy. However new iMacs tax a lot for memory as it is only a Bto option.
If you can stream samples from a 5400rpm drive I can get IMac or Mini and add an external drive later when not satisfied by speeds of sampled instruments. Moreover we have USB 3 now and that will give a speed bump!

Thank you again

I have one, just bought it. Live 9 Suite, so far so good... however, I must say "damn you Avid" for not having compatible drivers. I don't run large sample libraries usually, mostly plugins and internal instruments.

Thank you for answer!
I have some more questions :
Can you use the Grand Piano pack sounds without the evil "D" (upper right) flashing?
Have you upgraded RAM to 16GB or do you feel 'safe' for year to come with 8GB?

Thanks again and sorry for bugging you

Best
