Record audio coming from computer line out into Ableton?

Post by CancerRidden » Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:55 pm

So I guess this is kind of hard to explain...

My friend sent me a wav using evernote, but i'm having difficulty ripping the mp3/audio directly from source.

Usually I just go into the source code and fish it out but having a little difficulty here.

Is there a way for Ableton to just record the audio while I hit play on the website? if that makes sense.

I'm sure there's a way to do this just need a little direction i guess.

Not to my knowledge. However, if you did hit play on the website then, depending on your browser, chances are high it has already made it to your computer.

One of those dirty little secrets kept by all browser maintainers, except Mozilla.. Playing a flash movie in Internet explorer would result in it ending up in one of Windows temp folders, thus easily retrievable although the player wanted you to upgrade to "pro" so that you'd get a save feature.

So; depending on what browser you use I'd say check its temp folders to see if you can find something in there. It could be possible you'll find it there in some sort of cache folder.

Also; not every browser is easily accessible like this. I recall that for Firefox you'd need a "cache browser" of some sorts.

Finally; some browsers also have plugins for this. In SeaMonkey (comparable to Firefox; both are Mozilla browsers) you have "flashgot" (one of many). It can save audio streams, which can sometimes be very handy (download youtube movie, use vlc to extract audio, add audio to Live -> remixing fun).

Hope this can help.
With kind regards,

Peter
