Ableton chose deep sensitive musicians like Robert Lippok (to Rococo Rot) to endorse Push. Not that bozo exhibitionist who is to piano what glam metal is to rock.

Jan Jelinek (Loop finding jazz records), that's what i'm talkin' about. You don't have to crush the keyboard with a hammer. You can think, what is a single note and what can i do with it. But this conversation will obviously go nowhere because taste cannot be taught.

fuck me mr taste-meister. what the hell does "cynical pop" even mean? cynical how?brianbacio wrote:Jan Jelinek (Loop finding jazz records), that's what i'm talkin' about. i had a listen to some of Jan Jelinek's stuff, and i like it. it however is highly processed sample-based ambient music, by the sounds of it painstakingly sculpted and crafted with a computer. it's another whole different way of making music.
being a lousy music snob isn't anything to be proud of.

How quickly one resorts to lowly insults. Anyway, had Thelonious Monk been around today he might have found an interesting and novel way to compose a tune and fit some chords together with Push. I mean Rudess keeps playing the same old progrock molass no matter what you put in his hands. Oh and if you think i'm so hi-brow, you might check your inferiority complex.

erm, who was it that started with the insults and the superiority complex?
Re: Jordan Rudess rocking the Push
I disagree. Taking a Music History class in college greatly elevated my taste for Classical music.brianbacio wrote:But this conversation will obviously go nowhere because taste cannot be taught.
I think just about anything can be taught, including good manners. Grammar can also be taught, don't start sentences with a preposition.

^ +1!
Opening your mind to learning about genres you normally wouldn't listen too can indeed increase your appreciation of them. It doesn't necessarily mean you will listen to a particular style or genre more than your preferred 'tastes' but you might (hopefully) appreciate them, the cultural history, effort and so forth that goes into making said music.
Individual musical preferences & 'tastes' are indeed that, individual, subjective... It's what makes the world such an interesting place. How horrible it would be if we all liked the same musical styles and artists....
vive la différence

“... it was just to make an average listener go: ‘What the fuck is this?’ That’s a real inspiration for me and something that I will explore more on upcoming recordings.”
