ATH-M50 headphone broken, time to update. Any suggestion?

Post by Earwax69 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 12:30 am

Hi, my m-50 are broken. (one of the ear break out, sad they still work fine!)

Any suggestions for an update? the headphone need to be closed for sound isolation as I will use them in a office/apart with roomates.

under 300$ please.

thanks

Beyerdynamic DT770

I don't own them but I highly trust the many people that have recommended them to me. get the higher impedance version.

both are good..

the BD though.. are not designed for djs or on the road... they're good for home and studio use
I suggest you listen/feel them for yourself..
they are not semi-closed like the ath.. they cover your whole ear..
has bigger drivers.. and in my opinion sound less harsh than the ath..
more expensive and still...very nice headphones for the price..

What doesn't anyone like these?

Been very reliable, kicked athm50's to the curb sound wise imho. More comfy. Maybe less visceral bass. But you can "hear" the bass better. I dunno, I guess I'm the only one.

Beyerdynamic DT250's for sure :D

My first pair I had for over 10years!Very good sound, very comfortable

My advice is check your local store and try a few different pairs for fit etc

Shop around though, this recent pair I bought, managed,to shave 80GBP off the list price,he,he good times

just bought AKG´s K701

http://www.thomann.de/gb/akg_k701.htm

they sound good out of the box (even though opinions may differ) and are supposed to get better after a break-in/burn-in period of 300+ hours

i find them to be super comfortable and they are very analytical and clean sounding headphones.

really satisfied with the purchase :)

Thanks for all the advices! I am going to check them all carefully. Sadly no time or store to try them all.

I'll report back soon.

What about the beyerdynamic dt880?

They are favorably compared to the HD600 which are far more expensive.

but without amp?

I kinda want the dt880 pro (250) but I'm afraid I am making a mistake as they are semi-open. That mean I might get bothered by ambiant sound, roomates doing noise, coworkers talking...

I might better take another pair of m50...
