Mike, I do appreciate your honest opinion, but I would be interested in hearing just which more flexible & polished alternatives you are referring to, that can do for me what the Push can do in regards to tight integration with Ableton out of the box in just one interface?
Have you checked out any of the native control apc and launchpad scripts? specifically the LPC stuff?
Also, I didn't say all of them perfectly integrate w Live. I think you and lots of others might be getting a bit caught up on the integration thing.
Its actually really refreshing to have something besides Live to work with- and at the same time work inside Live. from that statement, I'm sure you can figure out what the others are that I'm talking about...and to me they integrate perfectly for my workflow.

Also, just because Push is the only thing out there, doesn't mean it's worth it.
Definitely, play around with one before you commit. I'm sure it will get better as time goes on.

If you have any specifics, I'd be more than happy to do my best to answer

haha...didn't say it tho...but since u brought it up- have u ever messed w a maschine.
ok, so now that we have this out of the way (being discussed at length in the "fence" thread), what other alternatives (besides Maschine) are u referring to ?

genuinely interested

I think the best ones are the LPC scripts by nativekontrol...

Okay, haven't used that. maybe worth checking out.

But we should compare apples with apples. Both Push and M******e are full solutions consisting of hardware, controller logic and the backend software.

It sounds as if the native control stuff is riding on top of existing hardware (Launchpad) and software (Live), primarily focusing on integration logic and "remapping".

So the proper comparison at that level would be the existing python scripts AND the ability to implement custom solutions via M4L ? There is already a Push dev framework which allows one to adapt Monome applications rapidly to Push, taking over parts or the whole hardware interface by selecting the respective track or device.

Yeah, sure...If you want to spend the time programming. Like I said earlier, one of the strong points of Push is the ease of programmng. And with that framework out there already, it's even easier.
Personally, I went down that route for a while and I'm happy to be back to music making world

I can't imagine how an iPad can seriously be compared to this thing. If I had to trade my Push in for an iPad and some apps tomorrow I'd be pretty sad.

I don't think, everyone needs to be programmer. I bet you that the LPC functionality will be ported to Push in no time (and this doesn't even factor in Push product evolution)

there is not necessarily a 1:1 relationship between program and user :-)

Everyone works differently, I'd take an ipad w my fun little programs over the push any day of the week...Have you ever tried any? I can't help but think that people who are loving the push have never messed with anything else. - and i say this with no malice intended.

I don't either, you brought it up:-)
Im sure this nativekontrol stuff will be ported over tho the push. then I will reevaluate my stance on it.

...Also, Im not trying to argue with anyone here. I'm trying to amicably share my experience with the Push. I know that if I paid for one of these in it's current state that I would be pretty upset. Again, my stance is this - spend a bit of time with one before you spend the $$$. You might like it, you might want to wait a bit or you might want to forget it...

Don't knock it until you've actually tried it.

That's good advice. How much time have you clocked with a Push?

I don't think I'll be getting a Push but I've enjoyed learning about its untapped potential. Seriously though, iPad.
