Dfault midi clip length
Dfault midi clip length
Whenever I go to insert a midi clip onto a part, its always one measure long. How can I change it to a different length?

I don't think there is a way to do this.
I would like this as a new feature myself. Although lately I have been getting along fine with the new Session record button although many people don't like it.

I don't know of a way to change the default, but if you're on Live 9 and want an empty clip of 2, 4, 8, 16, etc. bars, after creating the empty clip you can just hit the "Dupl. loop" button in the Notes section of the Clip View. It duplicates the clip every time you press it, doubling the total length.

Re: Dfault midi clip length
preCreate midi clips.
thats what i've been doing lately. a wee time consuming.
but works in the long run.
specifically because i "compose" completely in non"standard" time usually
and need the space to work things out.
i mostly create like 4-8 midi in track with a shitTon of varying midi clips.
and then i don't feel locked in to globalbars

As Revoltcrew said, create blank clips and drag-n-drop to your Desktop, NOT the browser as it'll save it as a Live file (well you could if you wanted to). I am not sure about export MIDI out of Live to desktop folder location, I'd have to go look at that. I typically do 1-2 bar clips (start with one, extend it to 2 length-wise) once I have a pattern formed/forming, duplicate to another clip, edit progression, rinse repeat, save them off uniquely named so I can re-use later as is or tweak some more and re-save.
May also want to look into Audio/MIDI in preferences as I am not sure if you can set a default length there...
