I was complaining frequently about the lack of decent keybeds on MIDI controllers (most are just awful), then I dropped the 599 for the Novation SL mk2 61-key and I've never needed to whine since. Has a Fatar keybed that feels fantastic. I tried everything, this was the only thing that worked for me. (Previously I was using a kurzweil k2000 as my main keys, but it died).

So to those for whom keybed quality is the main issue, I highly recommend the Novation sl mk2. Automap, you can take or leave, though mostly it works fine. But I bought the thing for the keys, and haven't looked back.

^^ Cool that the CEO is taking such a hands on approach.

Weird to me that the two keyboards with polyphonic aftertouch offered now are both 25 keys, with odd keys.

The KM Qunexus is even more versatile though.

Each key seems to be able to be used on a different MIDI channel if you wanted.
Plus polyphonic aftertouch and CV in/out! My guess is even though Live doesn't Poly AT it this could be used to control CC's etc.
I'm looking forward to it for sure.

You keep saying that, when they announced it they said it was channel aftertouch?
Why on earth would Ableton spend the money on Poly AT when Live doesn't support it?

Not saying you're lying but curious as to how you found this out? Live wouldn't be of any help there.

Push is not a keyboard, my point is : mainstream grid controllers and drum controllers evolve, while keyboards simply Frankenstein.
I'm interested in Keyboard controller evolution and the lack of it.

Well I would say the Qunexus is evolution. I'm in agreement about the keys being kinda goofy, and 25 is too little, but the poly pitch on board for one is a new thing, just like the mod being dependent on placement etc. with the Seaboard. Some movement anyway.

Am not lying, but could well be mistaken... My understanding is that the hardware supports PolyAT but that could be wrong... I am mentioning it looking for confirmation yea or nay ;-)

Expressive keyboard playing is not in demand. That is why decades old keyboards are more often than not better than the modern controllers. I am still using a Korg Z1 as my main controller. It is a better midi controller than most of what I can buy new today.

So yes, there is almost no evolution of actual keyboards.

I think it is amusing how the standard keyboard has been around since before we were born, and so gets taken for granted.

1. It Is the result of years of evolution
2. You know what notes you are hitting on it thanks to the clever pattern of keys
3. Equal temperament. ! Another thing we take for granted, don't don't always even consider challenging. It is a great and powerful. Convenient. Tool. And much of its progression is due to the keyboard.

I love button pad things. And the QuNeo etc with xy and aftertouch are great examples of the future. What about strings and wind and stuff? haha
