HELP: I need M4L Bank/Program change MIDI device

Post by jbone1313 » Sat Apr 13, 2013 10:22 pm

Hi guys-

I would really like a M4L MIDI device which sends bank and program changes. It would be VERY simple:

4 buttons: Bank+, Bank-, Program+, Program-

This will allow me to put this device in front of an instrument and map it to Push. Then, when browsing for patches in VSTs in Push's user mode, I can browse banks and programs using Push's buttons.

I'm sure this would be useful for others too.

An example of this is here, but this one only does program changes. I need bank changes too.

Example: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=512

Can someone help? Pretty please? :)

Thanks!

This guy has M4L and still doesn't want to have to learn it!

Sorry to use your thread as an example but I get a big kick outta this!

I hope someone throws you a fix really I do, it won't be me.......but I hope someone does

This is great example of what M4L should be used for, the fact that i'd need max to get Push's browser to mirror my L9 browser is ridiculous, this shit push should do out of the box.

I'm glad my lack of expendable time is amusing to you.

I won't do it only cause I don't have the extra money, I have time and would be more than willing if you'd buy me M4L. No joke I'll do the work.

I modified the original patch you linked to. Tested it with Alchemy, but I don't know about other (VST) instruments.
You have to change the program after you changed a bank for the VST to recognize it.

I just started hacking max patches, I don't really know what I'm doing ;)

edit: ups sorry, doesn't do as advertised. back to testing.

I think I misinterpreted your original post. I thought you were implying I was lazy for not learning M4L, but I think - after seeing some of your other posts - you were more pointing out that users should not have to jump through such hoops to get Push working. Sorry bout that, and thanks for the offer, really. :)

@mothergarage-Thanks for giving this a try! I look forward to seeing what you've got after some testing. :)

Another Try: Download
You here also have to change the program after you changed a bank for the VST to recognize it.

Adapted a patch from User Thomasch from this post.

mothergarage-I downloaded the device. When I attempt to load it, it says, "...ProgramBankChange.amxd" was not found. I think you need to upload the .amxd file. It looks like you uploaded the .adv file.

Can you please upload the .amxd? Thanks!! :)

Got it. Thanks for giving this a go. Unfortunately, those up and down buttons are not MIDI map-able. But, I might be able to hack something together with ideas from this and the link I posted.

If I get something going, I'll post it here.

Thanks again.

You could map the drop downs to a rotary encoder in the meantime

Now this should work. I restricted the banks to 16, you can change this in the inspector of the bank dial.
