Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
I was wondering, do you guys have any problems opening Ableton 9.0.2 (32 Bit) on Mac (Mountain Lion)? It takes 5-10 minutes to open the program. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks!

Hi, it's slower than L8 but not that slow.shhk88 wrote:I was wondering, do you guys have any problems opening Ableton 9.0.2 (32 Bit) on Mac (Mountain Lion)? It takes 5-10 minutes to open the program. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks!
I have max 1 minute on iMac 2008 and about 45 seconds on MBP 13" Mid 2012, both with 4GB RAM.
However I am using the standard template. Did you change the default template or moved the library folders
around and /or some mismatch in preferences? I have noticed that by swapping libraries from external to internal
drive while experimenting.
Let me know,
Best

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
I've had this happen after the computer was in sleep/hibernate mode and then I started Live.
A restart always fixes it the next time I launched Live.

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
Not an apples-to-apples comparison, but for reference, it takes about 28 seconds to open 32 bit Live 9.0.3 to the empty default template on my MBP (2.66 GHz i7, 8GB RAM, 7200 RPM HDD) running Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) after a hard reboot. Yes, it's different versions of the OS and Live, but I wouldn't expect that to make an order of magnitude difference. If I open it by clicking on a live set in Finder, it takes longer depending on how many tracks, samples, synths, etc. are in the set, but nothing like 5 - 10 minutes. (Maybe 1 or 2 minutes for something really complex.)shhk88 wrote:I was wondering, do you guys have any problems opening Ableton 9.0.2 (32 Bit) on Mac (Mountain Lion)? You don't mention which flavor of Live 9.0.2 you're using (i.e. intro, standard, suite) and whether it's a fully paid up licensed version or a 30 day demo. IIRC, the fully-functional 30 day demos (with save and export enabled) must contact Ableton over the internet every time they're started. I suppose an internet connection problem on your or Ableton's end could cause a delay on startup if you were using one of the demo versions.

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
I experienced slow start ups with 9.0.2(Suite/64bit), however if I disconnect my NI controllers (Maschine,F1,X1 on same USB hub) Live boots up in 7 seconds. I can then reconnect those controllers, Live 'sees' them immediately and everything works fine.
Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
Mine doesn't take that long, but it acts like it's going to crash and I'm using Windows 7-64bit.shhk88 wrote:I was wondering, do you guys have any problems opening Ableton 9.0.2 (32 Bit) on Mac (Mountain Lion)? It takes 5-10 minutes to open the program. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks!
I have a large sample folder so I assume that's the reason.

Me too but mine also takes forever to boot I thought it was my library.
Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
I have a similar issue, on win 7 64b, running 9.02 suite in 32b, It takes about 3-5 minutes for live to boot. 8 would boot under 90 seconds. I have not changed any default templates.

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
Same problem as OP on my late 2009 MacBook Pro (2,8 dual core, 4 GB RAM), although this one was working fine with Suite 8. On my two days old MacBook Pro Retina with SSD and 16 GB RAM, Suite 9 works fine. As fast as Suite 8 was on the old machine. I always thought that my old computer might be to slow for what Live 9 is expecting it to do. So you think it might be a bug from Ableton?
Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
I'm finding Ableton 9.0.2 sooo slow in everything, start up, dropping instruments on the tracks, save and export, really affecting my workflow, moving all my libraries and project files to external rive to see if this will help. wrote to ableton a couple of weeks ago, no answer

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
After sleep or being away from Live for a few hours. Live freezes, typing in the search field takes forever, and the program generally runs sluggish.
When I relaunch Live, it takes 3 to 5 minutes to open. Restarting my 2011 IMac usually solves the problem, but rebooting my computer everytime to use Live is not ideal.

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
Same issue here since the very first Beta I tested on this machine.
My initial startup time once I launch Live 9 is any where from 90 seconds to 4 minutes, then once Live 9 does open another 60-90 seconds of spinning beach ball until I can work in the "Browser". I can kill the latter by opening Activity Monitor on the Mac and kill "Ableton Index".
Live 8 launches with same config in 3-4 seconds.
What I've done to trouble shoot.
1 - Trash Live 9 Preferences and re-install Live 9.0.2
2 - Removed all AU's and VST's to see if some 3rd party conflict.
3 - Unplug all USB cables, just left Thunderbolt cable plugged in so "Samples" are available to Live 9 Browser (Ableton Index). But also remove TB as test.
4 - Start computer in Safe Mode
5 - Made sure OSX is updated, fixed permissions, bad blocks and other operating issues DO NOT exists.
When I submitted a support ticket they said use 9.0.4b1 (Beta). I did, no change.
My installs are exactly where Ableton defaults to, with default Template.
I do have a 1.75 TB drive of Samples on a Thunderbolt external drive, but even when I removed all folders in PLACES except defaults and trouble shoot - no change.
Maybe it has something to do with my OWC SSD?
At this point I've went back to using Logic. I've given up.

Re: Ableton 9.0.2 Slow Startup
After reading this thread I tried the same things to see if any improvement could be made without luck.
Win 7 64 bit with live 9.02 and Beta 9.04b1. Just saw new beta b2 is out so will try that out as well.
Live 8 load time for set is 12 seconds till audio is playing back.
Live 9 is about 1 minute then I have to unplug and plug my launchpad back in.

It's quite long (9.0.3) for me too, so I generally go to the kitchen and make some tea.

Same here, all around.
I really enjoy 9, but hell- this is really becoming a problem. Especially for playing shows.
