My comment about layering a kick sample with the synth kick goes for snares too! I usually try to get a unique sounding sample and then beef it up with some filtered white noise and some kind of tone around 200hz to make it heavy. It's a lot easier to layer more than 2 snares/claps than it is with kicks so it's more fun IMO

Great video. If I ever new Operator had a pre-filter shaper stage I forgot it long ago. Also the phase click isn't something i would have thought of.
