New Laptop - 32 or 64 bit?

Post by Dandy Dust » Fri May 17, 2013 6:53 am

Hi there!

I like my gradnious free-vst-collection. Checking out those synths often is my starting point of creation.
On the other hand I have had many out of memory crashes with my existing setup.

Does anyone have some expirience with bridging yet. The question is:

Will I have to work for hours to establish a bridge-workarround for every and each 32bit vst-plugin or
will I just install the thing once and basically forget about it after?

Anybody who installed 64bit live and would have rather undone it?
Or the other way arround?

I still am not shure which version to stick on my new laptop (As it´s on its way home ;-)

Thanx for sharing Your expierences, Dandy

Ableton advises 32-bit unless you're doing something so big that it requires 64-bit.

Some people have said that their Live9 crashes ended once switching to 64bit version.
I've been using 64bit version Live9 only and had very few stability problems.
But I'm NOT using JBridge, so no idea how well that works.

You can use 32bit Live in 64bit Windows, so I'd definitely get 64bit Windows if are buying a brand new laptop.

You can have both 32 and 64 bits on the same system, as far as the OS is 64 bit.

Future is 64, but 32 allows to play previous sets.

I'll got for both.

About plugins : I always installed 32 bits and 64 bits plugins to different folders.
But Live 32 only load 32 bits plugs and 64 only 64 bits plugs, so it's not a big deal.
