Triggering external synth

Post by SilverNeedle » Sun May 26, 2013 9:58 am

In logic i set up a general midi channel - put midi notes onto this channel and then set an audio track up and record the out put of the synth to the audio track.

The synths (ms20 mini) plugged in via usb to my mac

In ableton i have set up an external instrument - but not sure what i'm meant to do with it

cheers

In live you set up a midi channel - put midi notes onto a clip and then set an audio track up and record the out put of the synth to the audio track.

or you set up an external instrument - and route the midi and audio to their respective ins and outs.

the ms20 mini only has USB midi, you still need to plug the audio outs in your soundcard to record it

Yep I've got the output of the MS20 going into the soundcard, however the MIDI set up i'm not too sure about, as I'm running it on USB.

Using an external instrument, it says 'MIDI to' then there's the chance to configure.

not sure what i'm meant to do once i open this window?

from your screenshot, the ms20 is not plugged in, you should see it in the output list there and set it to track output
