improved performance in Tiger...

Post by AdamJay » Mon May 02, 2005 4:11 am

i was bouncing between Tiger and Panther today...
started doing some benchmarking.

I've found that in Live 4, there's an overall performance increase in the Apple AUMatrixReverb plugin. 4% overall. thats alot for an already low cpu using plugin.

I'll use this thread to post results of any more tests that show successful performance increases.

i just wrapped up some more tests.
testbed was my G4 12" Powerbook, and an external 7200rpm Firewire HD in Dual Boot (10.3.8 and 10.4.0)

I used a combination of Terminal, the Live 4.1.2 cpu% meter, and stacking fx until the system stopped (stressing) to get these percentages.
percentages are for OVERALL changes in performance.
results are as follows...

ARTURIA
Arp 2600V AU - even
Arp 2600V VST 4% better in Tiger

APPLE
AUGraphicEQ 110% BETTER!!! in Tiger
AUMatrix Reverb 4% better in Tiger (as mentioned earlier)
AUMultitibandCompressor 16% Worse in Tiger

ALPHAKANAL
Automat AU 4% better in Tiger
Buzzer2 AU - even

GMEDIA
Imposcar AU 4% better in Tiger

PSP
MixPack AU 5% better in Tiger
Nitro AU even
Vintage Warmer AU 1% better in Tiger
Vintage Warmer VST 2% better in Tiger

TC Native Filtrator AU even
TC Native Filtrator VST even

So, while Live itself including its own instruments and FX hasn't seen gains from the Tiger release, its handling of Plugins has improved. (this is a good thing)

hehe, don't worry i have a live in girlfriend that makes sure these things are done on a daily basis.

without her... well that would be another story entirely.

I bet .. here they call that "girlfriend" nurse and "are done on a daily basis " most probably refers to "food forcing through stomachprobe" ..."

 8) :D
