Top 5 things I will regret after going from Live8 to Live9

Hello, I'm hesitating about switching to Live9...
Is there things that you liked in 8, but that don't find anymore in 9?
What is your "top 5" things you miss after going from Live8 to Live9?

My only regret is that the acoustic libraries are not as good to be be a once and for all solution.

" It worked on L8, but don't work anymore on L9"

there's a thread not too far down that states exactly that.
"Live 9 ignores my midi clip volume envelope - ok in 8"

people come up with all kinds of ways to break Live, some just don't know how to use it. try the demo, think for yourself.

again with the  .

:x

The browser seems to be the biggest bugbear for most Live 9 users...

I don't like the new midi snapping, and I find the browser works against me.
These might seem like small things, imperceptible (or even preferable) to other people - but they were like a fine grade sandpaper to me, slowly taking my skin off, so I just went back to V8.
The browser there is still crap, but I prefer crap simplicity over elaborate failure . The note snap snaps reliably too, which is pretty handy.

Hopefully one day the L9 browser will be updated and the snap fixed, because I'd like to get some use out of the current version. I have a feeling that may take until V10 though, if ever, as Ableton seem to think the browser is OK. Any issues I ever raised about it were dismissed pretty sternly as "non-problems".

Completly agree about the browser stuff. This is very slow and the indexing seems to work too much to me. I remember all the comments you made during the beta phase, all very solid, not the 'I don't like nu brother' type... Too sad you haven't been listened. What really bothers me is that I think a lot of these design choices are linked to Push... Can't comment on the note snapping because I haven't used it that much for now (and don't do it a lot).

My main gripe with 9 is how you can't go anyway on the computer with the browser to grab a file without adding and indexing the appropriate folder first. I wouldn't give it all up and go back to 8 though.

Ok then "browser" seems to be the main problem.

I never use the Browser with L8. I use "Everything" (it takes 1 minute once for all for indexing my harddisk of 600 GB of data and then nothing, it is very light... and I have a version done by the author specifically for my request : auto preview of .wav files when you click on a .wav)
Try it! If you want the modified version with autopreview, please tell me.

PS : other question : can I open with L8 a project that has been edited with L9 ?

You can't open an L9 project with L8.

I have not found a need to

The browser takes a bit of getting used to but in general I find it an improvement. Clearly people with huge sample libraries have not had a happy experience, so I can't speak for everyone. And it is not great as an MP3 browser. But in general I much prefer it to the L8 browser.

I hate the new MIDI snapping and am waiting for someone cleverer than me to figure out the options.txt command to switch it off.

I used to hate the browser too but I've grown to prefer it. I especially appreciate the preview of instrument sounds that you now get. The one thing that I do miss is the live 8 Browser recognised symlinks (shortcuts/aliases) and the new one doesn't. It was repetedly requested in beta so I assume it was killed for a reason. It caused me a few problems but I've found workarounds.

You mean the preview that only works for factory presets, but not if you tweak something and save it?
I don't really use factory presets myself (other than some strings and piano), but for those that do I'm sure thats a nice feature : to listen to Abletons stock content. I think that was their target market with this release and that browser. Browsing their content in the way they want you to, and hearing their content.

As I'm not a big factory / bought preset guy I don't miss this feature in L8

So the browser seems to be the main problem...

BTW : is it possible to disable indexing ? I don't want Live to index all my 126 thousands of .wav files (lots of gigabytes)...

Is it possible to disable all indexing features?
