Hi Guys,
When my external HD is connected which has all my samples and stuff on it, Ableton take a while to open up. when i disconnect my external it loads normally; ie quickly.
WHY?

This is exactly the same issue I'm having. I believe it's related to the new library browser and Ableton Index going through large sample collections. It's frustrating because the start-up on Live 8 was a lot faster, with the same setup.
I'm going to remove the external HDD from Ableton's browser, and also reduce the number of active plugins, to see if that improves the load time. I'm using a little software called Audio Finder, which lets you automatically preview sound files while in the Mac Finder window, so I can browse samples, then drag & drop onto Ableton.
It seems to be a common issue, and I'd be interested to know if other people have found ways to improve load time. I wish there was an option to use a simple browser, without the added "benefit" of Ableton Index. I never use the search function.
