How does Reaktor compare to M4L? I don't have much desire to learn to program either, so I'd mostly be using pre made patches. I can't deny the $99 price looks attractive though.

To simplify. Max is great at controlling stuff. Reaktor is great at sound design.

The user base for each is use. NI has a great site with so many patches it gets a bit daunting at first.

For $99 it is a steal. They must be finally working up to Reaktor 6.

Thanks for the input.

If nothing else, it seems NI usually has really great upgrade paths. 75% discount followed by a good upgrade price in the future sounds better and better.

Unlikely. I have bought R5 years ago. Same sale - it was 100 USD.

However it is not that good. I thought i will use thousands of free patches but as turned out those in the user lib cannot compare to retail products. But i've built simple ensembles for my specific tasks and those really weren't available free or retail.

What did not you understand?
Original NI content is superb and well worth 100$ but the user lib usually way below modern (even free) plugins. It was ace in the mid 2000s.

Some of the user lib stuff is simply amazing.

Notable Examples :
  • Silverwood emulation of wind instruments, I've not heard much as good as that anywhere else.
  • Herald Brass is a brass instrument emulator which is weirdly good
  • Serenade emulates violins and strung instruments with a gestural interface, it actually sounds a bit like a violin being played with a bow.
  • plenty more - EG: the Hammy b3 is now my replacement hammond organ

It's a steal at that price - the factory library has some great stuff in it, and if you're prepared to hunt around, the user library has some amazing gems in it too.

Also it offers you a cheap upgrade path to the full Komplete if you are interested in that.
