You should complain with the plug dev. You knew the limitations when upgrading.

No, you're missing my point. I knew there was no built-in bit bridge.

But did I know that the only 3rd party solution was so undercooked? That it would lose the loaded preset when recovering from a crash as I mentioned in my OP?

What system?
Live 8 or 9 64bit?
What bridge (jbridge)?
What plugins are affected?

I am still on 8 64bit but I always use a new HDD to upgrade too in case something wont work with a bridge I canstill rescue old projects.

There are only a few I have had to bridge, older faves really, and I decided to just chuck a heap that were not worth it (good time for a cleanup).

I have very few crashes these days which is one reason I am hesitant to move to 9 since 8 makes music too. The rare occasion I have had a crash on a projhect running several bridges I haven't had the issue you describe. Jbridge isn't perfect but it seems to work well.
