Why does the CPU meter in Live 8 say Im a lot of cpu

Post by kevwestbeats » Sat Jun 15, 2013 9:09 pm

So I have Live 8.4 running and it seems like no matter what I do Live's cpu always reads at a way higher number than what my task manager says I am using. For example I opened Skanner XT inside of Reaktor and my Live cpu ran up to 70% but when I opened my task manager it said I was using 8% of my available CPU or Live and 15% cpu overall but then Live starts to cut the audio out like my computer can't handle even having the device open. My computer is a laptop Samsung 7 series core i7 2nd gen 2.2 ghz with 8 gigs of ram running Windows 8 64 bit. I like the DAW but I have been using it for a year and this has always turned me off about it. What can I do to improve this?

yh me too i got
A gig in a couple of weeks and i need my live set running properly
here's my problem.
i have ableton live 8 64 bit.
Most of my tracks is midi becuase i use to program on the mpc 1000
so i just set up a drum rack to the same drum program as my mpc 1000.etc.
i recorded my proformance from the box into live pretty good.
i also have some keyboard proformances in my live set.
i have 3 midi fill tracks
and 2 lead tracks. (but only one lead track im using in this set.)
but when i play the sence my cpu meter shows that im using
79%-102% of cpu usage
causing it to drop out my audio and slow down the audio play back proformance.
idk what to do ist just one problem right after the next with this program.
'im thinking on buying 16gb for my dell ultra book inspiron
yes thas right im using dell.
can someone help us please.

hi

that meter up on the right measures computational potential
not just cpu

if you have a multicore make sure you select it in preferences
and if you sample rate is high or to high that will factor in

FL plugins Ozone 5, Autotune 7 Gibson SG

Why is it any time that meter gets high my computer has a heart attack and how can I fix it? I can open 1 Reaktor instrument and it will shoot up to like 70% sometimes. It makes Live very hard to use with vsts.

well i am not sitting in front of your computer
but are you using 64 bit windows? 64 bit live?
latest reacktor?
what is your sample rate ?
what cpu? how much memory?
your not really telling me anything about you setup

64 bit live 8.4 windows 8 44100 sample rate latest reaktor 8 gigs of memory core i7 2.2 ghz 2nd gen does that help? a lot of more cpu intense plug ins give me this problem. Reaktor, Bloom, Etch, British Channel, and Diva did while I had it. I have work arounds but I would much rather keep working on music than dealing with technical difficulties while I am trying to be creative.

what anti-virus are you running... try turning the anti-virus off... when you load the vst/i is that the only vst/i running... have you tried "ccleaner"... defragment your harddrive... try adding one usb device at a time i.e. soundcard, then maschine, then keyboard... on lappies usb ports share irq with other devices... and that could be the bottle neck... try switching them around... you should have 3.0 and 2.0 usb connections... pay attention to which one is used for what...

i would start from scratch... turn anti-virus off... delete Ableton Live... run "ccleaner"... defragment the harddrive... re-install Ableton Live... attach midi devices/soundcard one at a time... switch the midi device/soundcard usb connection around...

hi

try running task manager and see what is using all your cpu
or process explorer

also... try "disabling" your wi-fi in the control panel... i believe you are having an IRQ problem... i.e. your usb ports, wi-fi, on-board soundcard, etc are sharing the same IRQ address... think about it... your soundcard plus your on-board soundcard, midi keyboard, maschine, wi-fi, not sure if you have firewire but that could be assigned to the same IRQ address... it becomes a bottle neck for your system...

I've tried all of this with the same results.
