Re: OS X Mavericks & Ableton Live
i'm not being suspicious at all.
just reflecting the point that abletons mavericks release notes saying that the current version of 9.0.6
won't work "flawlessly" is a mood point. considering nothing ever works "flawlessly".
!!! --> actually just had live 9.0.6 crash on 10.8.5 a few min ago whilst running one plug in and absolutely nothing else.
strange huh.
basically do whats comfortable for yourself.
running the beta 9.1 on an initial release of 10.9 is a choice.
you could run both beta and stable on 10.9. both have had success reports.
currently i've only heard tell of audio interface driver support being an issue for some on 10.9

Anyone got UltraLite Mk 1 working in Mavericks? If so, which driver?
Re: OS X Mavericks & Ableton Live
Apple named it after the surf breaks used in a competition held out by Half Moon Bay every year (surf permitting).Machinesworking wrote:Because no one else has mentioned it. This would apply mostly to those of us from the USA who watched the 08 elections.

Made me wonder if the people behind the name thought of this?
Apparently they're going to name the new OS revisions after California locations (land marks, not necessarily cities)...
so who knows what's next... OS X Redwoods, OS X Bay Bridge, OS X Golden Gate, OS X Harborside Health, OS X Casting Couch

I am receiving no output from Avid's Mbox 3 Mini with 10.9 on Ableton 9.1b24
I need a functional soundcard for my monitors which are using a 1/4" cable :/

"Avid currently states that Media Composer 7, Pro Tools 11, and Sibelius 7 are NOT supported with Mavericks. They will announce support for the new OS with future releases."

Re: OS X Mavericks & Ableton Live
Anyone upgrading right now without a Time Machine backup to revert to if needed is CRAZY! I'm happy to try new OS's out the second they are released, but only because I can revert in 30 minutes if I need to.

Mavericks has been rock solid with the latest version of Live on this end, for what it's worth.

Latest stable release from the App Store. This is a 64 bit system (Mid-2011 Macbook Air). Re: VSTs, I'm using Alchemy, Aalto, Tremor and Alloy with no problems. I hope this helps!revoltcrew wrote:sweet. that being the latest Stable or Beta ? Oops, sorry about that. My current version of Live is 9.0.6.Very nice.

Aalto is killer stuff, truly. Outside of Ableton's suite instruments and Alchemy, it's my favorite way to experiment with abstract textures.
Re: OS X Mavericks & Ableton Live
Thanks for the input, Frank N. Furter and Rebel.
So I've got my new MacBook pro. Preparing to transfer data. Apple assures me that if I do a time machine backup to an external drive from my 2008 iMac (upgraded to Mountain Lion) then plug that into my MacBook, that this will be the best way to bring my data AND programs.
Does that make sense for Ableton Suite? Sure would be easier than a fresh install...
Thanks for any help.

Cool cool! i'm getting closer and closer to jumping into Mavericks as long as Live 9.0.6 is solid.Nick the Zombie wrote:Oops, sorry about that. My current version of Live is 9.0.6.Very nice.

funny, Aalto crashed Live 9.0.6 under os x 10.8.5 this very morning.

Re: OS X Mavericks & Ableton Live - Not Much Fun
As I'm off work at the moment I had the time to experiment with 10.9 and live beta 9.1. Now I'm typing this on my ipad waiting for my time machine restore to complete after 2 days of testing, debugging, fixing etc.
One of the more painful OS upgrade experiences...
Upgrade to 10.9 painless.
9.0.6 appeared to work fine, but then had problems with the ableton index process hanging, missing samples, granulator not working and multiple broken VSTs. Jbridge 0.76, even bought 32 Lives for 32 to 64 bit bridging RC1 and the same VSTs or AUs had these slow GUI problems, each bridged by different methods in both 9.1b24 and 9.0.6. Several of these bridged VSTs GUIs became extremely slow to react. grr. Most VSTs and AUs bridged or otherwise worked well. Indexing process now working, some bridged VSTs or AUs won't.
Loved the multi screen of both mavericks and 9.1 but if there's too many VST problems, downgrade time...
Also firmware incompatibility with NAS meant it broke time machine, so no backups. Upgraded firmware on NAS, better but still buggy.
As part of the 9.1 beta install it upgraded push firmware, so hoping that now I managed to get my time machine restoring back to my stable 10.8.5 release it'll still play nicely.
Long and short is great to see what's coming but the music has gotta come first so hoping reverting back to 10.8.5 will see me right again. With any OS upgrade ya gotta expect a bit of pain, but for my purposes it'll wait a while more yet...
Hope this helps a few tempted by the upgrade to a) make sure you've got a backup and b) take pause for thought and only if you have plenty of time in your hands
