You have Guitar Pro??? Dude, then you have everything thing you need in terms of VSTs to produce good distortion!

How would I manage to use the plugins? ( like I said...pretty new here haha)

I was also looking at pedals. Do you all think this is a decent one for the price?

Or this seems actually a little better:

i haven't used anything like the line6 pods in several years, but i've never really liked the digital distortions on any of them. i have several distortion pedals that i use for effects within my DAW (keep in mind you need something like a reamp or a passive DI to covert the line level signals from your DAW to guitar level hi-Z signals).

i'm sure the newer pedal modeling softwares sound pretty good, but distortion is one of those things analog just sounds better on. that being said, when i'm feeling lazy, i use camel crusher.

i don't have this one, but people seem to like it a lot, at least for synths - http://www.dadalife.com/sausage-fattener/

To me, analogue for distortion is THE ONLY way to go. But I wasn't sure about the OP's budget. It takes more than a few pedals to get an analogue distortion sound into a computer. So I suggested one of the "ready to go" Line 6 gadgets. They act is input devices, pedals, amplifier, speaker cab, and DI all in one unit. Yea, they're digital, but as an all-in-one solution they're tought to beat. They have everything all ready to go in premade presets. Just plug the guitar in to the Line 6 thing, and plug the Line 6 thing into the audion interface, select a preset that appeals to you, and begin recording. No plug ins, no goofing with the DAW, and the Line 6 gadget can be used without the computer turned on and played through his Fender amp if he so chooses. Or even just a set of ear buds or headphones for that matter.

So it just seemed like the "best spent money".

But to be honest I prefer using pedals and a tube amp, and either DI the amp or even go mics.

Back to the Line 6 thing, he can even use pedals in front of it or in the FX loop as well. Like I said it just seemed like the most for the money, and the easiest for the money. That is, if some money is available!

Either one of those would work fine. The POCKET POD is really small and portable, but it has fewer amp models and FX and such. The FloorPOD is more versatile but more expensive and larger. So it all depends on what is "good" for you. But either one would work fine. I am pretty sure the POCKET POD has that "Insane" preset which I have used (and still do) many times for monster metal-type sounds.

At the very least the POCKET POD will give you some idea of which way you may wish to head in the future if you decide to pursue this stuff further. If not, then all you have invested in it is $125. So if you decide all of this stuff just is not for you, then small bucks invested to learn that lesson!

Izotope Trash 2 is far and away the best distortion plug in I have used.

Studio Devil do some good high gain amp plugins, there's even a really capable freebie there if you register, it just emulates a high gain Marshall, but it does that extremely well. http://www.studiodevil.com/products/bri ... ve_custom/

Image

I've not tried any of the full plugins on offer there but based on the freebie I recon they'd be pretty good. http://www.studiodevil.com/products/index.php

Personally, I mic up a Valve amp these days, but for full on grunge and dirt, you can do a lot with plugins. Voxengo Boogex(free)is also very good, 32 bit only unfortunately. http://www.studiodevil.com/products/index.php

Geez, I used Amplitube for nearly a decade. Version 1 no less!

Ill try out the studio devil and see if that plugin will benefit me more for the cost. If not I will probably invest in that mini line 6 pod for something simple yet effective.

Plugindiscounts.com has Trash 2 regularly for $154.00.

There is a current sale on Trash 2 and I picked it up at Audiodeluxe.com for $118.00 (summer savings discount applied by logging into account and adding to cart).

Trash 2 is amazing next to al my other distortions I have in software format. GuitarRig 5, Amplitube, Reason 7.

Next on my distortion plugin wishlist is Ohm Omnicide distortion. Gets really good reviews, heard samples of it sounding amazing. only downside I have seen is small interface. works well with Ableton too. It costs $130USD from Ohm but Audiodeluxe with summer sale it is like $110 ish.

Another good distortion is FabFilter Saturn it's about $164.00 from FabFilter. don't have it but people recommend it highly. it's on my wish list too.

*Ohmicide

Yea, I've seen that one used in a vdeo of a dude trying to clone a Skrillex bass sound .. it worked really well in that application.

https://www.ohmforce.com/ViewProduct.do?p=Ohmicide

He used it with Live and FM8.
