Curious, been saving up for a MakeNoise Rene sequencer, or TipTop Trigger Riot,
these 2 are simply f*king amazing sequencers.
Anyone using cv to midi to sequence abletons instruments or the racks you build,
with any of the newer sequencers coming out these days.
care to share your thoughts, experiences.

Hum, this is not what i was thinking of. Sorry. There must be a cv to midi converter somewhere, though.

you can also use expert sleepers silent way plus the hardware that lets you bring cv into your software. Or if you don't want to buy the extra hardware you can use a VCA. Chck out the expert sleepers website for more information.

I highly recommend silent way for using modular stuff with live anyway.

still researching and hunting for that awesome sequencer. sooo many options.
but the main thing needed is to communicate with Live, without having to purchase a bunch of modular modules.

does anyone out there currently sequence or have sequenced ableton with something like:
the Doepfer Maq16/3
or the oberkorn mk3
or the Doepfer dark time

these 3 are actually probably the easiest route as far as getting midi to ableton.

thoughts?

since i'm having this sort of solo dialogue, ill just keep posting. whatevers

i think i've decided on a sequencer:

MFB URZWERG PRO.... its straightforward. had MIDI OUT/THRU etc. and CV. so speaking with ze abletons is no problem.
also, and this is awesome 4X8 or 2X16 steps - 32 steps yo. and all the functions you'd need,

at an awesome price.

That's cool mate.
But nothing to do with a René, though !

true that. but as far as expenses go. and functionality.
i'll be shelling out over a grand just to get Rene talking to computer.

as with mfb urzwerg pro, its half that. and it talks to the puter self contained. no extra modules needed.
no extra rack buying. etc.

oh, and i would check that Midi sync works properly. It's often not the case on MFB products...

soo. chapelier fou, you have experience with the sequencers from MFB ?
and midi sync from external sequencers is always an issue yes.

Not with sequencers but :
Kraftzwerg : sticky notes when playing too fast in MIDI
522 : significant delay when slaved.

I use the Expert Sleepers ES3 module. Takes lightpipe (from my Ensemble) and gives me 8 channels of cv data to the modular. The Silent Way plug-ins will work without their hardware, if your interface is DC-coupled. I believe some of the Motu interfaces work ok (they make their own CV plug in, Volta?).

I use the Rene, and some other clock devices, and it generally works fantastic. As always with outboard gear, you're going to do a fair amount of delay compensating/troubleshooting. But it will work. The sync itself is tight, once you dial the delay.

As for the Rene, it is probably the most creative/inspiring of the modular sequencers I've tried. The Trigger Riot is also cool, but won't give you voltage variation (or notes/control signals)...just triggers. So you'll need a few modules to, um, trigger.

There is also a cool sequencer from Intellijel coming out, called the Metropolis. That will also be epic.

I recommend giving one of these a try.
