You seem miss the part where that reads as such, and the result looks more like an attack based on assumption and is overall patronizing.
He wasn't insulting you, you chose to feel insulted with a snarky 1st response.
You start on the offense, and you wouldn't need to defend your responses if they were executed in a helpful manner, snarky or not.

When you're looking for help, that's the last thing you should be doing (IMO).

Far from it.

As well as my contributions here, I also respond with help for others on at least seven other forums, and online generally.

I've been doing so since the 80s, before the web even existed. Back then I used conferencing software on dial-up to "blink" and collect/post messages.

People turn to me IRL too for my knowledge on DJing, DJ kit, studio kit, PA kit, gadgets, computers, software....

Not a noob by any means.

Otherwise, the only answer you're likely to get is "use a compressor" or "use a limiter" - which you should already have known if you weren't such a moron yourself. HA!

create new live set

now go download what you think is the best sounding track in your genre at the moment

load this file in live and place SPAN on the channel.

try this as follows with SPAN: go to settings, set slope to 0, enable 2nd spectrum. use one in "RT AVG" other in "RT MAX or MAX"

this will show you the spectral graph of your music using one display for averaging and the other for peak readings. set the averaging time to 3 seconds or greater to start.

make note on a sheet of paper avg and max amplitudes for the reference track over the entire frequency range.

do this for a few different tracks then start trying to benchmark your mix. the meters in live show you average level with a peak reading, you can use this in combination with the information you wrote down from analyzing the reference tracks. after a few times you wont need the analyzer anymore. just think about which range each sound lies in and use the faders/meters to sit it in the mix. don't be afraid if some of your channels are very low

loud is not about how hot the levels are. imo it's good practice to balance the track using just the faders before moving on to eq/comp, etc...

There you should find what could help you to boost up dynamics.

Leave your master track at 0.0db and once your main level doesn't go red, put the fx rack of you choice on the master.
Set it at taste and go

Some of those aren't too quiet actually, so not that bad. I think the biggest issue is just some busy mixdown, lots of overlapping freqs fighting to be in their own space without getting distorted at loud volumes I'd guess. Or a bit excessive sub-bass in some cases.

I'm really trying to focus on the mixing aspect of production these days. It always seems so far down the line. First there's learning the gear, making a beat, arranging the beat and then by time I get around to mixing I'm thinking about the next beat and put no time into the mix.

I'll focus more on eq and balance

Well, not sure how practical working through an entire track would be, but I'd be down for getting together some time and seeing what we could do with a mixdown.
