Crackling/Skipping in rendered wav file
I'm trying to bounce my song into a wav file but I'm getting these horrible crackling/skipping sections throughout the file.
When you play the song within Live it is fine.
Could somebody offer some guidance?
So far I've turned up the buffer (to 512 from 53) and also turned off the dither (it was original on triangle) to no avail

Okay, I've figured out that the crackling parts occur during parts where I'm pitching the vocals using the Apple AU Pitch plugin.
Is there anyway to fix this?

Re: Crackling/Skipping in rendered wav file
You could try to flatten/freeze or re-sample the audio with that plugin on it before rendering

Unfortunately the tracks in question are already frozen. Any other suggestions?
Re: Crackling/Skipping in rendered wav file
Do they play back fine when you listen back to the project file and only come out weird when rendered?

This is correct.

I have even tried recording the audio from that track to a brand new track as raw audio. It seemingly works when you are inside Live
but when export and render the crackling is still there, same exact spot.
Now this is really fucking puzzling me...

Is this happening to only one file you record?
How was the track recorded, export or in place (track record)?
What algorythm did you use?
Does it happen with a different algo
You say it sounds fine in live but not fine outside of live. Were any other tacks running at this time?

Yes only one file.irrelevance wrote:Is this happening to only one file you record?

The track is comprised of a multiple tracks recorded using a microphone recording directly into Ableton. The tracks are grouped.
Algorithm to export is "no dither". Yes it also happens with the other algos (eg. triangular).
It sounds fine in live under all conditions, when every other track is running, and also when it is solod. There are about 40-50 tracks in the live set. It is a song.
Re: Crackling/Skipping in rendered wav file
bounce the culprit track to another audio track
resample the input from the frozen track with the pitch plugin to another track
SO you'll end up by muting the frozen track while the bounced audio track will run and replace it to render your project.
I know it's not the best way but I assume it's a safe way to achieve the rendering.
Best to you

No Dice.
This is some bullshit right here.
I recorded the isolated vocal track as audio on another file. I didnt even use ableton to do it, I used sound forge.
Then in ableton i imported back in the file created in Soundforge to re-render.
And the same thing happened again.
Its as if Ableton cannot output these specific frequencies as audio .... wtf!

Whatever
I used soundflower to record a render as Ableton was playing live.
who knows what kind of implications this will have on the sound quality...

Re: Crackling/Skipping in rendered wav file
I am having the same problem.
The audio sounds fine when playing in Ableton, but when the file is rendered there are numerous skips.
I have tried adjusting the DMA buffers, trying different algorithms, tried adjusting the latency, tried disabling accelerated graphics, and tried with and without delay compensation.
I'm still getting skips in my export file.
Is there a routine in Ableton that can scan my system to help diagnose this problem? How can I trace the cause of this?
