mlr-style chopping with maschine?
i got a maschine mk2 from a friend, cause he has no use for it. so i thought i give it a try.....
but:
is there an easy way to do mlr style sample chopping?
i looked in the ni forum , googled it with no success!?!
the only way i could imagine is to load the same loop 16 times and adjust the start point, but that would take some time. there must be a faster way, or am i wrong?

Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
hmmm, maybe i wasn`t clear enough, my fault
i know how to chop loops, but i don`t know how to play it like in mlr!
(sorry if it`s in the article i don`T have the time at the moment to read it, but it looks like it`s just about slicing)

I just did a quick Google on 'MLR style chopping in Live' and it seems there are a few Max4live devices you could use. Is that a direction you could take?
Use Maschine as a plugin in Live + m4l device.

Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
thanks, but that`S the way i did it for the last years! the question simply was: am i able to do something similar with maschine .
Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
Ah sorry man, wasn't sure if it was just Maschine related or as plugin within Live.
Have you had any luck yet over on the NI Maschine boards?

Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
I think there is some confusion.
Do you want it for the Maschine software, or do you want it for the controller?
For the software, you'd probably have to route midi into it, I don't think there is any way to really do too much directly from the software.
As for the controller, I'm sure it is possible to do some things, it is just a midi controller and relatively flexible (or, at least as flexible as the controller editor allows it to be). So you'd need to see if there is anything made for it's midi mode. Which, there probably isn't yet.
But specifying that you want it for the controller and not for the software can reduce confusion.

Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
i want to play mlr with the controller, but that`s not possible without the software.
the question is: is there a mode where each of the 16 slices on the 16 pads is played consequently until i jump to another slice with a button press and then it continues from there (excuse my english, hope it`s clear now)

Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
It is not quite possible on the software.
The closest to doing that, would be making multiple instances of Scenes and having them retriggering on launch and all that goofy stuff.
Maschine can work in two modes as a controller though. One is a native direct communication with the Maschine software. The other is as a midi controller using the Native Instruments 'Controller Editor' software which allows you to assign midi functions to everything on the hardware.
But if you switch to the midi mode, I am sure something can be implemented. I just doubt that it exists yet.

I just don't see how chopping gets any easier than Ableton.
I got Maschine but I like Abletons chopping better. Ableton is more detailed but Maschine is probably better for live work.
I think even Reasons chopping is good now.

the slicing/chopping is just fine in ableton, but thats not the point! I WANT TO PLAY LOOPS LIKE WITH MLR not more not less. i can do that with ableton and m4l, i know. i just wanted to knopw if its possible with maschine too.jlgrimes wrote:stoersignal wrote:i got a maschine mk2 from a friend, cause he has no use for it. so i thought i give it a try.....

Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
Just curious because I'm still considering getting Maschine at some point, but what advantage would you gain by doing this in Maschine software only? Are you looking to drop Ableton altogether or something?

never ever, i`m just interested.panten wrote: Are you looking to drop Ableton altogether or something?
and i thought that if i like the workflow i will use machine for live-performances (mainly for drums )
Re: mlr-style chopping with maschine?
so basically the answer is no... although maschine can loop 'scenes'..
the looping mechanism isn't that customizable.
you can do it manually...
and with maschine hosted in Live, the sky's the limit...
