Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
Hi Forum,
I'm using an external sample in the impulse grid. It's a sweeping synth and does not repeat. I need it to run 1:45 but I can only get it to run for :30 seconds. Is there a way to extend the length of time a sample can run in impulse? For reference, this is 1 of 7 samples...but the others are under :30.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
I'm not very used to work with Impulse so I don't if this is of any help, but wouldn't it be easier to just throw the sample into arrangement view in its own track? I mean, since it's more than 1 1/2 minutes long.

Thanks for the inquiry, Each sample is triggered by a key on a midi keyboard for 'live' use. I'm not running it as an arrangement.

I didn't mess with it on my computer but are you holding the note down when you use that sample? The manual says this:
"The envelope can be adjusted using the Decay control, which can be set to a maximum of 10.0 seconds. Impulse has two decay modes: Trigger Mode allows the sample to decay with the note; Gate Mode forces the envelope to wait for a note off message before beginning the decay. This mode is useful in situations where you need variable decay lengths, as is the case with hi-hat cymbal sounds."
I don't know if they have a time limitation on Gate mode. Or maybe your sample isn't long enough.

I'm using the gate mode and holding the note down on my keyboard, but after :30 seconds it automatically stops. My sample file is 1:45 (confirmed both the :30 and 1:45 times with stop watch). I'm currently using Ableton Lite 8...could there be a time limitation on Ableton Lite?
Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
It might be a time duration built into the device itself :/
You don't have the sample repitched, or stretched?

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
The sample is not stretched or repitched. I'll check into the device.

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
Why not just set up a drum rack with some Simplers in it? They don't have the 30 second limitation.
Or are you using Impulse's Stretch and Time features?

I'll try that. I'm not using strech or time features.no_barcode wrote:Why not just set up a drum rack with some Simplers in it? They don't have the 30 second limitation.

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
I tried loading simpler into a drum rack but it went from being able to hold several tracks to one simpler track when I dropped in the file. I need to run several tracks on keyboard one of which is over :30 seconds. I was able to run the full 1:45 in simpler so I know it's not the keyboard timing out at :30 seconds.

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
Each drum rack pad can hold a separate Simpler (or whatever you put in it) So you can have 128 Simplers -- each triggered from a different key on your keyboard.

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
I'm using Ableton Lite (as a trial) and cannot access drum rack (it's there but I cannot open it in lite). I can use Impulse but it seems to have a :30 max time limit on any one track. I can open Simpler and play longer samples than :30 but only one track in Simpler and I need all 8 tracks. I was hoping there was a way to extend the play time in Impulse (hidden command or menu). Does Impulse have a time limit in higher versions of Ableton?

Re: Sample Longer Than 30 Seconds
Yes, Impulse is limited to 30 seconds in 9 Suite as well. But drum racks would allow you to do what you're trying to do.Indy317 wrote:I'm using Ableton Lite (as a trial) and cannot access drum rack (it's there but I cannot open it in lite).
