Drum machines, worth it?

Post by sirvoice » Sat Sep 07, 2013 6:53 am

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a drum machine to add to my gear. I really want to get that analogue sizzle that i hear on records where people use analogue drum machines.

Other than the usability, Is it worth forking out a bit for? do you think it can all be achieved with samples, drum racks etc?

Cheers

I don't know how many real, 3-dimensional musical instruments you have, but it can be very productive & fun to have alternatives to the computer ( :x ). A dedicated instrument can often be more immediate, & sometimes faster at getting results.

I look forward to the day when I have a vintage drum machine like the ones used by Suicide or Brian Eno back in the 70's.

I use sample hits every time - it seems every combination of settings on drum machines has been sampled.

The only pain is finding the right one(s) for your track amongst all those millions of samples.

If you get good at programming your drum machine then it might be quicker to program but you might need more than one to cover all bases.
